IT Administrator Intern

We are looking for a motivated IT Intern with a passion for technology, looking to leverage knowledge of IT processes and challenges to provide efficient and reliable solutions to employers. Possessing excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders to improve operations and help meet organizational objectives. Seeking to utilize technical insights and expertise to advance current IT projects and set up long-term strategies to drive success. The intern will be an Information Technology Support Specialist and will provide direct technical assistance and support to the DISA HQ and DAFA staff for network, hardware and software issues. Duties include monitoring network health, installing and maintaining network gear, provide compute systems admin support including software and hardware on servers, desktops and laptops, resolving internet, updating trouble ticket, and network access issues (both wired and wireless), and providing network printer support. Intern will meet with senior staff who will provide one-on-one technical assistance as needed/requested, providing training to staff on software and hardware use, determining causes of computer/user support/network malfunctions through evaluation and testing and resolution via modifications, repair, or external support assistance. This is a continuous appointment, initially lasting up to 3 months with the potential to go beyond that. Increased summer hours may be available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement new technology and major changes and enhancement to existing solutions into the production environment.
  • Perform systems administration and/or engineering activities and assist in the preparation of multiple work products in Project and/or Technical Process Areas
  • Assess operational baselines, recommend changes to change control and drive the implementation of change into the production environment.
  • Remotely manage distributed servers, switches, and workstations within each local site by a central location where possible.
  • Assist with the coordinate all maintenance and restoration activities of remote servers with the Battle Watch.
  • Assist information engineers in coding, testing, implementation, and documentation projects.
  • Conceptualize, design, construct, test, and implement portions of business and technical Information Technology (IT) solutions through application of appropriate software development life cycle methodology.
  • Interact with the customer to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical context, and organizational strategic direction.
  • Define scope, plans, and deliverables for assigned projects. Collect, identify, define, and organize detailed user and IT requirements.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with others in analyzing collected requirements to ensure plans and identified solutions meet customer needs and expectations.
  • Confirm and prioritize project plans and deliverables with the customer.
  • Participate in business and technical IT solution implementations, upgrades, enhancement, and conversions.
  • Apply metrics to monitor performance and measure key project criteria.
  • Prepare system documentation.
  • Establish and maintain security, integrity, and business continuity controls and documents.
  • Analyze, identify and resolve business and or technical problems using appropriate tools.

Participate in special studies and stay current on emerging tools, techniques, and technologies. Experience in Information Systems (IS).

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college/university in a related field of study
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • IT experience in systems development and operations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance, clearable to TS/SCI
  • DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II
  • Experience in a single discipline such as assembly/integration, cross-discipline functions, data engineering, industry expertise, knowledge engineering or legacy evolution.
  • Experience in or desire to learn Networks (VLANs), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and Network Address Translation (NAT).
  • Desire to be a network and one systems administrator with a goal of achieving a related certification such as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification.
  • Have the ability to assist the team with documenting processes and procedures and creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams.
  • Demonstrated effort to achieve a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or related field.
  • Some experience across a broad-range of programs.
  • One or more of the following certifications:
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) (Routing and Switching)
    • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP)
    • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
  • ITIL V4

Pay Range:

Pay Range $37,050.00 - $66,975.00
