Assistant Fleet Manager

Summary

The Assistant Fleet Manager will plan, implement, and oversee day-to-day operations functions. This position will monitor schedules and adjust staffing levels according to volume. This position will apply accountability standards based on critical metrics and continuously implement change to improve performance and increase efficiencies.

The role is responsible for recommending and implementing improvements and modifications to the process, resource utilization, etc. This position will supervise the ADS Operations team and ensure that driver concerns are reviewed and addressed promptly.

The Assistant Fleet Manager is accountable for utilizing assets and fleet personnel to control costs and maximize delivery performance.

The Assistant Fleet Manager will manage all drivers’ daily activities and performance, including planning, dispatching, and communication throughout the day.


Responsibilities

Manager drivers in a dispatch/planning role to ensure company equipment is utilized to the maximum ability.

Validate, update, and enter load information into transportation systems.

Schedule and adjust truck availability and follow-up with internal and external customers professionally.

Ensure that every truck/driver assigned is managed and goals for planning drivers are met through effective routing and use of

driver’s hours of service that maximizes delivery time revenue and customer service.

Monitoring operations and resolving logistics issues by coordinating with shippers and receivers at customer locations. Ensure customer service by collaborating with the broker department to maximize capacity.

Ensure that loads booked are compliant with the laws governing our transportation service.

Estimate and evaluate future delivery requirements and potential through the application of Continuous Quality Improvement and statistical methods. Participate and contribute to cross-functional problem-solving teams.

Review, evaluate, recommend, and implement changes for operations systems through collaboration with information technology and Distribution Service personnel.

Make employment decisions for drivers, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.

Coordinate and manage employees’ work by directing team members to meet the area’s goals. Audit regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.

Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring, and administering performance reviews.

Communicate company and departmental issues and goals through weekly team meetings and coaching.

Manage resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods, and materials.
