The Optum Infusion Pharmacy (OIP) Bleeding Disorder program serves thousands of patients per year and is an industry leader in bleeding disorder pharmacy. This leader will orchestrate business strategy and execution across the critical functions with an eye to patient service, volume growth and profitability. The leader also will work across the organization to advance ambitious strategies that center around market development (customers, products/ services, channels) and profitability management. Many of these activities will require a functional partner to fully execute but the guidance will come from the leader and their team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strategy, business and market development
    • Define new payer priorities
    • Define new pharmacy and MSA growth priorities
    • Define, build and drive utilization of clinical services required for patient care by service line – e.g., physical therapy in Hemophilia
    • Identify new customer, product/ service, channel strategies to drive long term growth
  • Volume and Top-Line growth
    • Mobilize functional partners to deliver volume and top-line growth in line with targets
    • Partner to set field sales priorities and inform sales targets
    • Support performance management of field sales vs. targets
    • Collaborate with managed markets team to activate large scale growth efforts
    • Establish guardrails for reimbursement rate negotiation/ contracting on relevant therapy areas/ drugs
    • Activate strategies to advance new payment models – e.g., capitated/ patient episode payment, risk bearing models
    • Define service line value proposition to payers, providers
    • Support development of marketing and communications materials
  • Drug COGS/ Pharma relationship management
    • Establish guardrails for acquisition cost negotiation/ contracting
    • Align business/ service model to secure market-leading acquisition cost
    • Coordinate product purchases with supply chain team and effectively manage product inventory to reasonable levels across the system
    • Track drug pipelines; anticipate impact of new launches
    • Define OIP value proposition to secure access to LDDs
    • Inform agenda for data and other services/ supports needed to advance pharma relationships
  • Care service strategy and cost management
    • Establish guardrails for nursing unit cost and quality metrics
    • Establish guardrails for nursing deployment – e.g., rules for use of agency vs. employed
    • Support nursing operations in making trade-offs in line with strategy
    • Define innovation priorities in nursing delivery – e.g., telemedicine
    • Execute alternative channel strategy given therapy area dynamics – e.g., Treatment Centers
  • Pharmacy, capabilities/ technology and RCM operation execution
    • Translate business strategy into operational priorities and expectations
    • Establish guardrails for pharmacy unit cost and quality metrics
    • Support pharmacy operations in making trade-offs in line with strategy
    • Define operational improvement priorities – e.g., digital consumer solutions
    • Align on technology/ capital investment priorities for upcoming year
  • Clinical center of excellence: Education, training and analytics
    • Analyze revenue and utilization data
    • Develop outcome data value offerings
    • Develop and implement internal and external product education
    • Provide clinical expertise within the enterprise

Success Metrics:

  • Market Share/ Market Capture
  • YoY volume growth
  • Payer mix and gross margin performance
  • Drug COGS and drug gross margin (as percent of sales)
  • Care service gross margin (incl. nursing, AIS, etc) and utilization
  • Patient and provider NPS
  • Patient retention and growth

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of all commercial insurance, managed care and governmental payer activity within the bleeding disorders industry
  • Experience in Hemophilia and bleeding disorders
  • Relationships with industry stakeholders – payers, HTCs, manufacturers
  • Understanding of impact of 340b programs on Hemophilia

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in healthcare, business, finance or related area field
  • 6+ years of healthcare management experience
  • Knowledge of all commercial insurance, managed care and governmental payer activity within the bleeding disorders industry
  • Demonstrated business leadership experience in Hemophilia and bleeding disorders

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $134,200 to $257,700.
