Responsible for examining, analyzing, interpreting and maintaining accounting records for the purpose of giving advice and/or preparing statements. Positions that fall within this job family will function in both the field and office.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, provides support to more experienced personnel by performing routine accounting assignments, moderately difficult in nature, requiring a broad knowledge of accounting theory and principles.

  • This position has a degree of accountability and responsibility.

  • Displays knowledge and ability to apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related and unrelated accounting tasks, including the ability to design and implement changes in accounting procedures as needed.

  • Applies sound professional judgment and independent thought on details of work

  • Reconciles accounts monthly.

  • Prepares long term cash forecasts

  • Provides liaison services between job site personnel and company administration in respect to project accounting.

  • If on a project, maintains the general ledger and subsidiary systems, supervises the accounts payable functions, records incoming charges from subcontractors and/or maintains records for all client- owned equipment and rental items.

  • Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall accuracy.Provides financial support including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from budget.

  • Includes positions involved in devising or installing accounting systems and advising on cost-recording systems and/or financial and budgetary data.

  • Develops, directs, plans and evaluates accounting policies and procedures including cost accounting, general accounting, and accounts payable and receivable.

  • Manages the planning and direction of accounting activities, including the maintenance of the ledger accounts and financial statements.

  • Prepares, records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions, including coordination and administration of assignments.

  • Under limited supervision, performs accounting assignments requiring competence in all conventional aspects of an accounting discipline.

  • Applies extensive expertise as a technical specialist.

  • Performs accounting duties of a more complex nature requiring professional experience and knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

  • May supervise one or more accounting functional units such as payroll, accounts receivable, cost accounting, etc.

  • Demonstrates the ability to plan, develop, coordinate and direct detailed phases of an accounting function and conduct work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques and procedures.

  • May ensure compliance with accepted accounting principles and company policies and procedures.

  • Analyzes current accounting procedures and recommend and install more efficient procedures when necessary.

  • Develops and installs accounting systems, methods, procedures and controls.

  • Maintains the general ledger and subsidiary systems.

  • Approves and verifies invoices.

  • Authorizes and endorses vendor and subcontractor payments.

  • Manages and controls accounting data systems.

  • Devises and reviews charts of accounts and cut-off dates.

  • Monitors work order accounting system.

  • Provides financial interpretation and guidance to management personnel.

  • Work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives.

  • Applies sound professional judgment on details of work.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or demonstrated equivalent.

  • Two or more years of professional developmental experience.

  • Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a US Government security clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Government security clearance.

  • Position may require travel.

  • Must have valid driver's license.


Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel.
