Job Summary

Purpose and Scope:

Independently perform maintenance of cryogenic, hypergolic, high and low pressure gas and solid propellant equipment to include corrosion control.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Modify, refurbish, clean, troubleshoot, repair, adjust, calibrate, verify, certify, checkout, test and operate tube banks, storage vessels, converters, tractors, vacuum systems, engines, pumps, compressors, rechargers, transfer hoses, various fixed systems and other related equipment used in the receiving, storage and delivery of GN2, GHe and GO2, cryogenic, hypergolic, high and low pressure gasses, solid propellants, solvents and other liquids.
  • Perform piping and tubing fabrication, installation, reconditioning and testing of all types of high pressure lines and flexible hoses; mixing of special gases.
  • Perform corrosion control duties by painting mechanical and electrical equipment. Preparing, caulking, painting, and finishing panel frames, unstrut, and fixed propellant equipment.
  • Determine paint required for different surfaces, and mix paint ingredients to obtain proper color and consistency.
  • Work from written or verbal instruction, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals and applicable specifications and codes.
  • Obtain measurements, field dimensions and other related information necessary to complete job assignments.
  • Operate vehicles and other types of equipment required for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Use electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, measuring devices and shop tools such as, but not limited to: resistance soldering units, meters, scopes, probes, microbrazers, mobile power generators, counters, potting equipment, ovens, molds, etc.
  • Perform functional and/or operational tests of refurbished, repaired, and modified equipment.
  • May operate gas welding equipment to perform cutting, burning, and soldering, as necessary, to accomplish work assignments.
  • Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required.
  • Maintain certifications, licenses, permits, etc., required for performance of assigned tasks.
  • Perform in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Space Force laws, regulations and requirements. Comply with KSC/CCSFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.
  • Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish assignments.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training from a vocational, community college, or accredited institution. Three (3) years related experience. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a security clearance.

US citizenship is required for unescorted access to assigned work area(s). Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Handling/managing hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities. Industrial environment containing high pressure and propellant/fluid storage systems and equipment. Work environment hazards for which personal protective equipment is provided include cryogenics, hypergolics, high pressure gas, and noise. Unless waived by Amentum management employee must meet probationary period Self Contained Atmospheric Protection Ensemble (SCAPE) physical requirements and become SCAPE certified within 90 days of employment and capable of wearing a 40 pound backpack in an encapsulated (SCAPE) suit. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stoop, bend and squat. Occasional use of computer type devices. Constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, speech/hearing abilities for communication, and mental alertness.


Preferred Qualifications

Painting experience of 4 Years. Ability to read and understand drawings and possess ability to work safely on both energized and de-energized equipment. Unless deferred by Amentum management, possess a current Florida Class A Hazardous Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with an X endorsement, or acquire this class of CDL within 90 days of employment. Ability to work day, evening, and night shifts, as well as overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must possess planning/organizing skills, and work under deadlines.
