Responsible for the installation and maintenance of a wide range of commercial and residential heating and cooling systems including heat pumps, furnaces, air conditioners, refrigeration units and other ventilation, dehumidification, heating and cooling systems. Position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs installation maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and modification of HRAC systems to include: chillers, water cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, compressors, boilers, package unit systems, split systems, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves, and capillary tubes.

  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units including boilers, and electrically operated air condition equipment and make necessary adjustments or repairs; service and repair evaporative coolers.

  • Repair and re-build semi-hermetic reciprocating and centrifugal compressors.

  • Must be familiar with and be able to operate different manufacture software and program control functions in relation to individual units.

  • Lubricate and pack heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning motors, pumps, fans and other equipment.

  • Interprets engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Cuts pipe using saws, pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine.

  • Threads pipe using hand or electrical pipe threading machines.

  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes and fittings.

  • May be required to work at elevated heights.

  • May be required to pass a respirator physical and wear a respirator.

  • Must be able to research, specify and order materials.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or GED and specific training and thorough knowledge in facility HRAC maintenance.

  • A minimum of 3 years of verifiable work experience is required.

  • Possess Journeyman status.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, work orders, inspection reports and specifications.

  • Knowledge of principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration, dehumidification and air conditioning systems.

  • Must have the ability to weld, braze and solder.

  • Ability to calculate air flow and pressure temperature characteristics for various systems. Hold site certification for operation of heavy equipment. EPA Freon Recovery license required.

  • Must have computers skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Project.

  • Qualify for and maintain a US Government Top Secret security clearance with access to the work location. Note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Government security clearance.

  • Possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

  • Must pass pre-hire drug screening and Fit-for-Duty physical. Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities.

REQUIRED CERTS:

  • OSHA-10 card, Construction Industry

  • CPR/First Aid Card

  • CFC/HFC certificate

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Physical requirements include prolonged standing, moderate walking, repeated bending, and climbing, overhead work, working in cramped positions, lifting, pulling and pushing weights up to 100 pounds. Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) and good hearing (with or without a hearing aid) required. Must wear respirator when applying cleaning solvents to cooling tower. Will work inside and outside in various weather conditions. Subject to rapid changes in temperature due to nature of work. Hazards include danger from gas fumes, falls, electric shock and burns, cuts and bruises. May be required to enter and work in confined spaces. Must have normal color vision. Must comply with all Safety practices and Environmental regulations.
