Job Summary

Assist chemists in analytical determinations by collecting and preparing samples, conducting experiments, measurements with precise laboratory equipment and recording and presenting results for chemical analysis. This position will also assist chemists in non-routine tests and studies related to troubleshooting or aerospace and commodities simulations at Kennedy Space Center (KSC).

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Prepare and conduct general laboratory investigations with awareness of laboratory techniques, operations and instrumentation.
2) Perform routine and essential maintenance and calibrations of laboratory equipment.
3) Prepare analytical solutions and gas mixtures used in general laboratory analysis.
4) Assist chemists in conducting specialized tests and projects.
5) Suggest improvements and modifications to procedures and/or equipment.
6) Prepare reports and inform supervision of problem areas pertaining to laboratory operations, quality and safety.
7) Use computer assisted automation and data calculation to generate analysis results.

8) Perform duties in compliance with Federal, State, Local, NASA, and other governing regulations and requirements and KSC energy management, conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreement, security, safety, hurricane, and specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section with the limits of established policy.
9) Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five years experience in performing general laboratory analytical determinations. Must be able to achieve KSC level of proficiency and meet physical requirements in fuel handling, visual/micro-particle counter, and respirator use.

May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. US citizenship is required for unescorted access into restricted areas. Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Work is performed in a variety of settings including an office environment, laboratory and outside with occasional exposure to Hazmat materials in proper containers. Occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must be able to work under deadlines.
