Job Summary

The ATCALS (Air Traffic Control and Automatic Landing Systems) Technician Level II is responsible installing, sustaining, troubleshooting, and repairing standard ground radar and airfield systems and equipment platforms to include: air traffic control, weather, ground aircraft control and warning radar systems; air traffic control radio; meteorological and navigational aid systems.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

· Resolves installation, repair, and modification problems associated with NAVAIDS equipment.

· Employs line-of-sight and tropospheric scatter techniques.

· Conducts tests to restore and maintain systems.

· Uses layout drawings, schematics, and pictorial diagrams to solve maintenance problems and ensure equipment is properly positioned.

· Analyzes construction and operating characteristics of equipment to determine source malfunction.

· Perform intricate alignment and calibration procedures to ensure maximum operating efficiency.

· Reviews and ensure compliance with maintenance management publications and procedures.

· Enforces safety standards for system maintenance activities.

· Checks installed and repaired components for compliance with technical publications.

· Maintains inspection and maintenance records.

· Posts entries on maintenance and inspection records.

· Records meter readings and other pertinent data in equipment logs.

· Completes maintenance data collection forms.

· Requisitions, accounts for, and turns in supplies and material.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

· Knowledge in maintaining the following systems but not limited to: DME, ILS, MMLS, MPN-23, UPS, RCSU-2238, TACAN, TRN-44, VOR, RSI/RCI or equivalent monitoring equipment. FMQ-19, FMQ-23, Micro-EARTS, MSCT, NRTD, STARS, STRAP, TDX-2000, MARK IVB, NEXION, Terminal Advisory Systems (TAS), GPN-22 (PAR) GPN-27 (or 20), MPN-25, UPX-37, CM-200, CM-300, GRC-171 & 211, GRR-23/24, PCAS, GRT-21/22, ETVS, Liberty Star, PL-2000DT, PRC-117, RT-1319, TRC-176, URC-200, ATIS, DVRS, TTRS.

· Effective oral and written communication skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Office software

Experience & Education

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Formal electronics training such as: military technical training school, vocational college, and/or four (4) years electronics apprentice program with experience in electronics equipment the technician will maintain.

· Six (6) years of practical experience with equipment the technician will maintain and oversee.

· Recent NAVAIDS experience highly desired.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

· Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable

· Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions

· Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
