United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is currently seeking a Carpenter/Roofer. The pay will be $26.74 per hour.

POSITION SUMMARY


The primary purpose of this position is to provide base operations support through the performance of carpenter/roofer trade functions.

  • Performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain building woodwork and equipment.
  • Perform cleaning and housekeeping required in performance of normal maintenance activities.
  • Work involves most of the following: Work from verbal or written instructions, sketches, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals and other specifications
  • Planning and laying out of work from specifications or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, and selecting materials necessary for the work
  • Provide technical assistance and training on all structural tasks
  • Cut, shape and fabricate wood or wood substitutes, as specified by verbal or written instructions, sketches, or other specifications using carpenters’ hand or power tools and woodworking equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required, such as attaching metal siding or trim to structures, possess knowledge of drywall hanging/mud & tape, minor masonry repairs, floor tile installation/repairs, ceiling grid and ceiling tile installation/repairs, concrete work, form setting, construction carpentry, ceramic tile repair and installation, repairs on overhead doors, and installing metal frame doors.
  • May direct or instruct laborers and/or helpers assigned to the project. Properly fill out all necessary paperwork related to work performed.
    Performs the roofer duties necessary to maintain roofs. Work involves but is not limited to: Repair, replace, and install roofs on base buildings; Use a variety of materials such a metal, aluminum, wood, shingles, tiles, slate, and steel; Scale the tops of a property to repair leaky roofs, replace broken tiles, or seal areas to make them watertight; Ensure buildings are structurally sound and safe for those who enter; Inspect roofs to determine the best repair or replacement procedure; Ensure materials utilized are properly trimmed to tightly fit along the edges of a roof/intersecting surfaces and altering materials as needed; Prepare, smooth and level roof surfaces.
    Maintains accountability for all tools issued.

QUALIFICATIONS

In general, the work of the carpenter/roofer requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years related experience as a roofer and/or completed formal vocational/technical training.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid CO state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check and drug test.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.).
  • Must be able to perform On-call duties when scheduled and report to work within one hour of notification.
  • Must be able to work alternate shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements of the customer, to include weekends and holidays.
  • Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.

  • Complete all training within required timeline.
  • Perform all work in a safe and secure manner.
  • Demonstrates dependability in all aspects of work.
  • Must be able to carry out oral and written instructions in an acceptable manner.
  • Must follow prescribed standards of dress, hygiene, and conduct while representing the company. Resolves problems promptly with minimal adverse impact on the functional operation.
  • Complete all formal and informal conferences, workshops, training, and seminars as deemed necessary by the supervisor or applicable to the position.

Hourly Rate: $26.74
