Job Description:

Supports Expeditionary Exploitation Unit 1 (EXU-1) operations Performs chemical analysis of recovered materials to detect and identify compounds present to include: explosives, homemade explosive pre-cursors, solvents, acids, bases, drugs, TIC/TIM, and other hazardous materials. Review, evaluate, and analyze data from samples and provide database entry support. Perform appropriate presumptive and confirmatory analyses utilizing the following: colorimetric tests, thin layer chromatography (TLC), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and other instrumentation or techniques as available.

  • Perform complete analysis of samples, document examination results/findings in the required Laboratory Information Management System(s) and databases.
  • Author detailed forensic laboratory notes and supporting documentation.
  • Review, evaluate, and analyze data from samples and provide database entry support.
  • Utilize, maintain, perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of analytical equipment/instrumentation to ensure performance criteria are within acceptable limits. Work with manufacturers and service vendors, as required.
  • Annotate the file documentation, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results. Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of files, reports, data, etc.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop new methods to support expansion of laboratory capabilities and improve/solve existing method deficiencies.
  • Maintain a clean laboratory and personal workspace environment, in accordance with laboratory procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree Chemistry coupled with 5 years’ experience.

Proficiency working with chemistry analytical methodologies such as Liquid Chromatography (LC), Gas Chromatography (GC), and mass spectrometry.

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills

Duties may be executed in a CONUS or OCONUS laboratory and include performing analyses of samples that have been collected.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner.

Must possess, at a minimum, intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
