Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a Scientist 5 to be based in the Carlsbad, NM area.

Purpose and Scope:

Perform analytic or scientific studies in physics, mathematics, science, or engineering. Generally functions in one or more of the following activities: conception, development, research, planning, coordination, sales, service and technical assessment of major individual programs or several separate projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Conduct analytic studies and/or scientific studies in physics, mathematics, or engineering.

2) Perform conceptual, developmental, and planning functions for major programs.

3) Generate specifications for computer program development.

4) Develop mathematical formulations and equations.

5) Generate scientific computer programs.

6) Write investigative reports and memoranda.

7) Perform customer and regulator liaison and may be responsible for a business element.

8) Establish and maintain a filing system, databases and logs as needed for tracking regulatory reporting requirements (i.e. RCRA, CWA, EPCRA, CAA, Pollution Prevention, etc.).

9) Coordinate and work closely with other scientific, engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines in conducting analytic and/or scientific studies.

10) Identify, collect, and analyze technical information relevant to the quality and significance of a specific research and other scientific development issues.

11) Conduct experimental investigations and comply with scientific documentation standards, system specifications and experimental procedures.

12) Prepare and present briefings about research findings.

13) Direct customer and regulator interface for coordination, modification, technical assistance and implementation of programs.

14) Provide technical inputs, ideas and concepts for proposals and business development.

15) May provide technical management and leadership to a group of employees for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule technical and employee performance.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Requirements

Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related science field and 7 years of job-related experience

or

A Bachelor degree with 10 years of job-related experience is acceptable.

or

Ph.D. and 1 year of job-related experience or equivalent.

Excellent communications and analytical skills, working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Due to the nature of work, candidate must be a US Citizen only. Dual Citizenship will not be accepted for this position.

Most positions involve work typical of office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., underground, waste handling areas, outside locations, etc.) where mechanical equipment are in operation. Such positions may involve occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
