Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Amentum is seeking an Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA.
This position will primarily support the engineering research group by
performing small-scale R&D design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with the site
technicians. This position requires a hands-on approach, a strong work ethic, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to excellence.
Position Requirements:
Under general direction, design instrumentation, control & data acquisition systems for continuous process systems ranging from lab to pilot scale projects. This includes the selection of logic solvers, HMIs & field instruments. It also includes low-voltage electrical design and the development of logic diagrams.
Configure, troubleshoot, and test single & multiple loop controllers, programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, and human-machine interface software.
- Oversee the optimization of current processes and control systems to ensure systems are finely tuned and working at optimum levels.
- Analyze current control systems to identify vulnerabilities and be able to recommend short and long-term mitigations.
- Efficiently use Autodesk AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings, including but not limited to electrical power plans, P&IDs, network diagrams, control panel fabrication drawings, wiring diagrams, and I/O drawings.
- Independently lead design/build projects across all 3 NETL sites.
- Provide control and instrumentation training to customers and operation support personnel to successfully operate control equipment.
- Lead commissioning, shakedown, and testing activities on new or modifications to electrical and control systems in the laboratories.
- Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other engineering team members to resolve any issues.
- Create and review purchase orders, statements of work, and subcontracts.
- Support in-house technicians on new installations and maintenance/modification issues.
- Assist with developing labor and material estimates for design, fabrication, and installation.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with and communicate effectively with the customer.
- Limited day travel to the Morgantown, WV NETL sister site may be required. (< 5%)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering form a four year accredited
college or university.
7 Plus years’ experience.
Preferred Qualifications
PE in Pennsylvania
Experience with LabVIEW, PLCs, distributed control systems, NFPA 70 NEC Code.
