Job Description:

The Electronics Technician supports Expeditionary Exploitation Unit 1 (EXU-1) operations and applies advanced technical knowledge to capture, characterize and identify IED electrical/electronic RF receiver and transmitter modules and circuit board characteristics, operating frequencies and power. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using test instruments.

  • Conduct field and laboratory-based analysis of electronic devices to understand the theory of operation and functionality.
  • Input, review, interpret, and evaluate captured exploitable material (CEM)/IED/conventional ordnance/sensor system components/electronic circuits/timers as well as device circuit diagrams, microprocessors, a multitude of sensor types, and other electronic components inherent in advanced weapons systems.
  • Use electronic laboratory measuring equipment, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, x-rays, schematic capture tools and associated instrumentation to perform exploitation of CEM.
  • Perform Electronic Data Recovery (EDR) of logical and physical data on cell phones and other media storage devices using hardware/software tools including Cellebrite UFED, XRY, FTK and other forensic tools and analyze EDR files to recover data.
  • Conduct examination and analysis of electronic devices, explosive devices, post blast debris, sensors and components, and other pertinent evidence as presented to the lab.
  • Write technical reports documenting the results of exploitation and entry into an information and/or intelligence database.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering or related technical field with 3 years of relevant work experience or 5-7 years of professional military experience as an electronic technician.

Experience with laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.

Experience with schematic entry and circuit board design software, circuit board layout and circuit board technologies

Working knowledge of Digital Data Exploitation such as Microcontroller identification and data extraction

Must be proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office Applications: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and Power Point.

Ability to advise government client personnel in mission essential tasks, necessary actions and options to consider during exploitation operations. Capable of multi-tasking; working several complex and diverse tasks with simultaneous or near simultaneous deadlines in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
