Amentum is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Technician located in the Williamsburg area of Virginia. The EHS technician will support the EHS Manager with ensuring safety and environmental conditions are met to protect employees within a mixed workplace (admin/skilled labor) setting. This position develops and delivers effective policies, procedures, auditing, training, communications, and educational materials to promote increased understanding and adherence to safe operating practices through the workplace. The EHS Technician ensures compliance with company standards, client contract requirements, and government regulations.

The EHS technician is responsible for conducting worksite assessments/inspections to ensure that all equipment and processes meet company standards, contract requirements, and regulatory requirements. Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) inventories are maintained and distribution of PPE to appropriate personnel, train employees in all regulatory processes, and make sure that all employees are following guidelines. Able to occasionally lift heavy objects and work in outside environments; able to multitask while being able to produce accurate and professional work. Demonstrate excellent written and communication skills and be able to obtain trainer certification(s) to instruct employees on many types of equipment such as forklifts and other mobile elevated work platform equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • Complete work risk assessments.
  • Identify and complete THAs for hazards by using the safety controls (eliminate, engineering, administrative, PPE). Develop, implement, and oversee action plans to eliminate hazards to minimize risks.
  • Review and update site EHS SOPs with the THA’s identified from the work-risk assessments.
  • Implement material handling improvements including methods and equipment.
  • Complete EHS inspections including but not limited to waste, water, storm water, air emissions, security, etc.
  • Complete accident, near miss, and first aid investigations.
  • Know, apply, and document state, OSHA, and federal regulations, and identify problems and suggest remedies.
  • Educate, monitor, and train personnel in safe work procedures.
  • Develop and disseminate manuals and documentation around health and safety.
  • Track and Report metrics
  • Maintain and track budgetary expenditures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Secret Clearance; ability to upgrade to upgrade.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental Health Sciences.
  • Demonstrated professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar role; including at least one to two years of experience with training others in safety equipment operations.
  • Possess knowledge of all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting or managing an environmental safety program.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft tools and commercial Occupational Safety Databases.

Desired Qualifications

  • Possess an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certification.
  • Possess a Safety Training Supervisor (STS) Certification or obtain STS within 3 months of hire date.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour Construction or General Industry course.
  • Experience in managing Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience managing and tracking EHS budgets to include following prescribed procurement processes/instructions.
