Job Summary

The Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), SENTRY modernization and Cloud Migration Services is modernizing its inmate management system. SENTRY is the Federal Bureau of Prison’s (BOP) primary mission support database. The system collects, maintains, and tracks critical inmate information, including inmate location, medical history, behavior history, and release data. BOP is migrating SENTRY to the AWS cloud which is a critical element of BOP’s modernization program to transition from the current mainframe COBOL environment to a modern Java-based SENTRY application in AWS GovCloud using the MSS mainframe modernization toolset.

The Senior Database Administrator will:

  • provide database administration, database details, database migration support, schema conversion support, migration support of DB2 to AWS hosted databases such as Relational Database Service (RDS) and Amazon Aurora.
  • leverage the CI/CD pipelines to provide consistent and repeatable provisioning and deployments.
  • work on provisioning the Production environment and deployment of the new platform for Cutover readiness.
  • Analyze data structures, develop, and implement a deployment strategy and tooling to support migration of the redeveloped Web SENTRY to the target cloud-based environment.
  • Create Data Models, Database Diagrams and Deployment Plan to AWS GovCloud
  • Assist with legacy data conversion, as needed
  • Collaborate with client technical staff, key partners, developers, product and program management
  • Work in an Agile Environment and support multiple agile teams
  • Manage and appropriately escalate data related, risks, issues, and challenges
  • Address any issues related to data security

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college and 7 years’ experience OR 15 years job-related experience.
  • Modernization experience, complex environments, high availability and secure environments (highly regulated)
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship required.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoJ NACI/T1 prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of DB2 Database Administrator experience
  • Familiarity with DevOps pipelines (i.e. Jenkins)
  • Experience with AWS native tools, Database Migration Support (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) Relational Database Service (RDS) and Amazon Aurora.
  • Use of specialized tools from Astadia such as TestMatch, DataMatch and DataTurn to automate database migration and testing.
