Overview:

Oversees & manages day-to-day operations. Responsible for strategic, tactical, & personnel issues for Aircraft Fire & Rescue program in support of an airfield for rotary & fixed wing aircraft. Develops procedures, ensures training is conducted, & ensures all personnel have met requirements dictated by their job description. Review of all unit activities & records & advises the chief of regulations that personnel need to meet to maintain currency in their profession. Ensures Operations are conducted within requirements of DoD/NFPA/ICAO requirements for Emergency Services delivery.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Is responsible for Fire Department Operations at assigned duty location. Overall in charge of operational shifts. Serves as an instructor & mentor to MNG Firefighters assigned to the department. Develops operations guidelines & SOGs; coordinates operational guidelines & SOGs with the fire chief. Oversees the firefighter personnel in the readiness of personnel to respond to emergency situations at duty location. Ensures the fire department responds to all requests for emergency services (fire, EMS, special rescue). Ensures the fire department performs & participates in the proper mitigation of emergency services. Supervises personnel during emergency operations & non-emergency operations via the chain of comm& system. Prioritize support requirements for multiple simultaneous medical & fire emergencies. Maintain adequate resources & ensure they are always maintained in proper operation & in a mission ready state. Maintain files & records on equipment used in all aspects of the operations of the fire department. Participate in weekly meetings with the fire chief & officers. Participate in weekly fire department meetings with the fire chief. Create & maintain weekly & monthly reports in support of training activities. Ensures internal training events & customer training events are conducted under the direction of the fire chief. Maintains liaison with other DAT fire department services. Ability to effectively communicate with the customer in a professional & courteous manner. Ability to communicate effectively both orally & written. As part of the selection process, a physical will be conducted. Candidates must have normal color discrimination, visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in the other eye, not more than 20/200, each eye, uncorrected. Candidates must not have any record of pyro phobia, acrophobia or claustrophobia. Must have & maintain a BMI of 35 or less. Reports to the fire chief of Aviation. Has the authority to select & implement goals & objectives within the execution of duties & responsibilities of the fire department under the direction of the fire chief. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises operational shifts & shift Lieutenants. Perform Role of Fire Chief in his absence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Level: High School graduate required; associates degree or higher preferred. Department of Defense, Pro Board, or International Fire Service Accreditation Congress certification required. Fire Officer III, Hazmat Incident Commander, Hazmat Operations, ARFF Firefighter, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) – Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by a State Agency or the National Registry Required.

Experience: Minimum of 10-years ARFF firefighting experience in either the U.S. Military, DOD or as a civilian required.

Specific knowledge, skill, & ability requirements: Expert knowledge of aircraft rescue & firefighting techniques, practices & equipment, as well as first aid & CPR & structural firefighting. Considerable knowledge of the design & characteristics of military & civilian rotary wing aircraft. Considerable knowledge of exit & safety procedures of various military & civilian rotary wing aircraft, & structural fire/alarm detection/suppression systems. Ability to quickly perform & direct all functions in difficult & hazardous situations, without hesitation. Ability to comprehend & apply instructions & communicate information in a clear & concise manner. Ability to learn, apply & teach aircraft rescue & firefighting techniques & practices. Ability to lead in potentially dangerous situations & make quick & sound decisions. Ability to perform physically demanding work & withstand very hazardous conditions. Skill in the operation of aircraft rescue & firefighting equipment, tools & vehicles, including highly specialized firefighting apparatus.
