POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Services Manager (FSM) will report to Program leadership, sharing the responsibility for the performance of the work and on all contract matters relating to the daily DFAC operation of this contract. The FSM is responsible for overseeing all work requirements, including scheduling of personnel, work supervision, and quality control. The FSM will oversee all contracted DFAC operations and will be able to effectively communicate, using technical manuals and references.

The FSM is responsible for the supervision and management of all aspects of food services. Through their oversight and management, their staff prepares meals in large quantities using various methods of cooking. Their oversight includes food service supervision over all food preparation and service activities. They ensure meals are prepared in accordance with AR 40-25 Nutrition Standards and Education, AR 600-60 Army Health Promotion, and PAM 600-24 Health Promotion. Through their oversight, their staff participates in establishing a Food Safety and Inspection Program IAW AR 40-656, AR 40-657, AR40-660, DoD Hazardous Food and Nonprescription Drug Recall System, TB Med 263, and TB 530 TRI-SERVICE Food Code. Through their oversight, their staff ensures cooking areas are cleaned IAW MIL-STB-3006C.

The FSM oversees and directs the day to day operations in the food service areas. The FSM is responsible for providing supervision, technical guidance, training and quality assurance for all DFAC staff and assist as needed in the successful operation of DFACs. Included in this function will be a full range of management duties including, but not limited to, planning, scheduling, and quality control. The FSM shall provide an adequate staff of personnel with the necessary food management expertise to assure the performance of the work in accordance with sound and efficient management practices and to complete work in accordance with the time and quality standards in the contract. The FSM will meet any reporting requirements and perform other duties as assigned by Program leadership.


The FSM shall be available within 2 hours to meet on the installation with Government personnel to discuss problem areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of one year (1) previous experience at a military installation with similar mission/project in scope and nature
  • Must have completed an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, or a foodservice corporation
  • Must have passed the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and hold a current Registered Dietician (RD) as required by AR-40-25
  • Serve-Safe certified preferred
  • Must be able to function in an office setting, answer the phone, use office equipment, etc.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Valid driver's license and passport
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide)
  • Requires skills such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, and jumping and other similar physical activities. The worker must be able to endure extreme climate conditions and be able to work in an outdoor setting. Must possess strong management skills.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience providing excellent customer service in supporting contract responsibilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules and under pressure of deadlines while maintaining performance standards
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired

EDUCATION

This position must have a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from an accredited university or equivalent work experience.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS

This position may be located in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere environment. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time.
