Director, IT

Purpose and Scope:

Directs and coordinate the information technology (IT) infrastructure of the company, including all phases of systems planning, design, installation, support and management of networks, server platforms, Cloud environments, disaster recovery capabilities, and datacenter operations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, guidance, oversight, and support of activities related to mission, goals, and objectives. Responsible for management decisions regarding IT infrastructure budget, productivity, and financial reports. Manages environment to ensure regulatory guidance is met through policies, procedures, and infrastructure design.
  • Maintains performance monitoring and alerting of datacenter resources, wide area network, email, collaboration and desktop office automation systems and capacity through the use of management tools, third-party partnerships, staff oversight and vendor management. Ensures service levels are met.
  • Oversees environmental modifications, implementation of new tools and processes and/or upgrades to existing tools. Conducts periodic evaluations to determine if objectives are being met and consistently identifies the opportunity and need to revise priorities.
  • Manages and coordinates IT infrastructure projects that may affect functional areas across the organization. Evaluates and recommends to senior management the feasibility of new initiatives in information technology based on business requirements and priorities.
  • Oversees and directs the staff including providing supervision and guidance of strategic operations. Plans, directs, and oversees daily tasks and activities of direct reports. Develops work performance plans and evaluations. Oversees the development and implementation of long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the company’s objectives.
  • Oversees and approves creation of operational and project training material to be used by support personnel. Provides direction, guidance and support on activities related to technology and business support.
  • Represents IT Infrastructure to other IT towers, indirect functions, and company organizations. Represents IT Infrastructure to external companies as required. Provides proactive representation to internal and external groups as needed.
  • Provides support for disaster response and recovery or Continuity of Operations to ensure minimal business impact through proper planning, testing, and execution of plans as required.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Passionate about team member development and working with internal and external partners to deliver Infrastructure technologies and support IT operations.
  • Knowledge of federal laws and regulations relevant to program areas and information technology; and of the principles and practices of their management.
  • Knowledge of managing and/or coordinating efforts related to an enterprise/system-wide program or service.
  • Knowledge of deploying or maintaining enterprise/system-wide email and desktop collaboration systems.
  • Knowledge of deploying or maintaining enterprise level Wide Area Networks and associated network controls and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of deploying or maintaining enterprise level datacenters both on premise and Cloud (third-party provider) environments.
  • Skill in establishing plans and setting objectives and goals that support an overall business strategy.
  • Skill in gathering information, resource organization, project/task prioritization and schedule development.
  • Skill for providing exceptional customer service in complex, large systems/environments.
  • Skill in managing large, complex technical projects.
  • Skill in critical thinking; familiar with tools for structured decision making.
  • Skill in oversight of outsourced/contract agreements.
  • Skill in leadership and the ability to build effective teams.
  • Ability to develop and work in a highly collaborative environment across diverse teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in multiple formats, with all levels of company personnel, excellent interpersonal and documentation skills.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or a related field. Two (2) years of experience in business development may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college.
  • 10 Years of management experience in IT infrastructure services.
  • Excellent leadership skills; demonstrated working knowledge and extensive experience of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Position requires travel. Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 50 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
