Litigation Deputy Director

Program/Staff Management:

  • Act in place of Division Contract Director, with all authority, as needed, in Division Director’s absence.
  • Support the Division Director and Division management in all phases of work.
  • Work closely with senior management and other functional staff to manage/track projects, task orders, and task order mods; and prepare Litigation Support Plans.
  • Coordinate with internal corporate resources such as Finance, HR, Accounting, Recruiting, and Procurement to facilitate Program needs and requirements.
  • Will lead proposal efforts and will collaborate with Program counterparts in the development proposal responses.
  • Work with managers and supervisors to develop, evaluate, and monitor caseloads for subordinate staff. Provide staffing recommendations to senior management.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance consistency and efficiency in the litigation program.
  • Counsel staff and managers on efficient ways to leverage litigation best practices.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback to litigation staff and Program Leadership about performance.
  • Assisting staff to remain current on Litigation Support best practices and trends.
  • Will be required to diffuse information, critically analyzing it, preparing summary reports, and presenting the same to internal as well as external stakeholders.
  • Attend weekly and monthly program leadership and client meetings.
  • Interface with Government attorneys, CORs, Case Managers, and other component staff to anticipate litigation support needs and develop and execute detailed plans for addressing needs.
  • Technical Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Consult with case teams to develop and apply technical strategies in order to develop and implement AI plans and advanced document searching to complete document reviews in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Assist case teams on the analysis, data trends, patterns and presentation using AI/data analytics and other advanced techniques in document review
  • Coordinate and consult on training and management of document review protocols centered around the use of data analytics and AI including drafting protocols and other guidance.
  • Contribute to departmental publications, presentations, and documentation creation. Train, QC and update case teams and department as required.
  • Act as the primary POC for electronic discovery issues and provide solutions for deficiencies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the discovery lifecycle, applying in-depth knowledge and experience to provide expert consultation and advice on technology and best practices.
  • Ensure that procedures for eDiscovery and litigation support are applied consistently across the lifecycle of each case.
  • Participate in 26(f) conferences, prepare affidavits, and testify to the defensibility of the government’s process, the use of AI or eDiscovery issues.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a US government security clearance.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years experience of supporting discovery needs for diverse clients in large, complex litigation matters, with the ability to manage discovery from start to finish.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience supporting the design and management of complex document review projects including management of contract attorneys, use of analytics, review and reporting of key performance and progress metrics.
  • Substantial experience with Relativity and proficient ability to review documents, maximize efficiencies in the tool, and perform defensible searches.
  • Ability to effectively liaise with multiple case teams, clients, litigation support teams, document review services and vendors, to define the project's scope, goals and objectives and develop efficient plans for achieving these tasks.
  • A minimum of 7 years of hands on experience with leading eDiscovery review platforms with an emphasis on complex search construction and results validation, design of optimized review workflows including document batching.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience supporting early case assessment steps to defensibly cull document volumes and identify potential gaps in data collections or incoming productions.
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands on experience with the use of TAR and other analytics (BrainSpace, NexLP) with an emphasis on the use of CAL/CMML and other techniques for deduplication, email threading, review prioritization, sampling, production quality control, privilege identification and other predictive models.
  • At least 4 years of prior experience managing a team of individuals including supervising and managing direct reports.
  • Must have expert knowledge of litigation support; outstanding writing skills; outstanding oral communication skills; outstanding management skills.
  • The candidate should also have a strong working knowledge in Electronic File Processing (EFP) tools such as Nuix, LAW, IPRO eCapture, and Venio.
  • Experience plotting out and implementing workflows for all phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) from the information management and collection phases all the way through to the production and presentation phases in a government investigation and/or litigation.
  • Experience formulating project budgets and developing level-of-effort (LOE) projections, maintain and update project tracking logs, track case financials/spend, and monitor the health and scope across projects (i.e., time, cost, and resource statuses/impacts).
  • Proficiently with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, required.
  • Need to be proactive, organized and detail oriented. Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field or Juris Doctor (JD) is desirable.
  • Government Contracting experience and knowledge of the Government's data processing environments, including office automation networks, PC-based database, and other applications.
  • Certifications preferred: Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA), Brainspace, Certified eDiscovery Specialist (CEDS), Project Management Professional (PMP)
