Amentum is seeking a System Administrator for a position on Kauai, HI. Supporting the Range Network Department. Candidate will provide technical based oversight and management of systems administration and information assurance activities related to the PMRF range networks. Provides Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Modern Desktop, Windows Servers administration for all Clients and Servers connected to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) classified and unclassified networks. Deploys Cyber Security mandated system upgrades, system patches, and system security lockdown requirements. Performs system wide troubleshooting and problem resolution in a live mission environment and other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

Responsibilities
Specific assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Provide systems administration for all clients, servers, and peripherals connected to the classified and unclassified PMRF networks.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, including software installation, update, patching, and core services related to Windows Modern Desktop, Windows server, Linux OS, and various applications.
  • Implement DISA STIG / System Hardening and working within Configuration-Managed Environments.
  • Manage users and groups, including use of a centralized directory for authentication.
  • Configure local storage using partitions and logical volumes.
  • Create and configure file systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems.
  • Operate running systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, starting, and stopping virtual machines, and controlling services.
  • Support for application installation, licenses management, software tracking/distribution and backup/recovery of system configurations and user data files.
  • Maintain up-to-date Configuration Control and adhere to all Configuration Management requirements for all Firmware, Software, and Hardware associated with the classified and unclassified PMRF networks.
  • Understand and use essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit status reports, and technical briefs, as required, to supervisor, senior management, and customers.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration, expected to provide technical problem solving and in-depth consulting for problems involving system operations.
  • Automated installation methods and system imaging (e.g., MECM, VMware)
  • Usage of cryptographic log-on methods (e.g., PKI)
  • Analysis, design, and implementation of modifications to the system software in order to improve system performance by correcting error.
  • Participation in planning new hardware acquisitions, interacting with vendors, educating customers, and communicating and collaborating with other projects within the organization.
  • Work closely with engineers to help with the use workstations and servers to solve computationally intensive problems.
  • Using shell scripting to automate system maintenance task.
  • Perform system asset/property accountability and license management within specifications of PMRF contract.
  • Assist and support lab environment testing/buildouts with senior team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • General office environment with site visits as well as periodic "at sea" duty to support the PMRF's Mobile at Sea Sensor system (MATSS)
  • Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment and participate in technical and system administrative activities throughout project life cycles.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Over 50 lbs. (two-men assist)
  • Positions: walking or standing, crawling, kneeling, cramped, and work requiring repeated stooping, sitting, and/or frequent stair climbing.
  • Environmental: Customer Contact, Extended Workday, Confined Work Area, Office Laboratory, Field Assignment, Inclement Weather

Minimum Qualifications

  • A.S. Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or another related scientific field.
  • Two years’ experience in the specific field of assignment or similar discipline.
  • Knowledge of IT systems, including Windows Modern Desktop, RHEL, and infrastructure concepts – Windows Server and/or VMware certifications are considered a plus.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security Methods and Techniques considered a plus.
  • Must be proficient in operating personal computers, computer software and standard office equipment.
  • Must have basic keyboarding skills and aptitude for neatness and accuracy in sorting.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security Methods and Techniques considered a plus.
  • Critical thinking - Proven problem solver
  • Good written and oral communication skills are required including the ability to organize.
  • DOD 8570.1M IAT Level II

Certifications

One of the following OS Certifications required.

  • Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate (Exams MD-100 & MD-101) or Endpoint Administrator Associate (Exam MD-102 starting May 2023)
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (Modern Desktop Administrator Associate plus Exams MS-100 & MS-101) or Administrator Expert (Endpoint Administrator Associate plus Exam MS-102 starting May 2023)

Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a US Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.
