Job Summary

Purpose:

Perform the full range of heavy wheeled equipment maintenance repairs. Works as part of a team; possible deployment may be required to other sites to perform inspections and repairs on equipment that is either being issued out to or returned from using Units; overtime work hours may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily.

  1. Diagnoses system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies for the following types of military heavy equipment: PLS (M1120A4 M1075,) LHS (M1074’s). HEMMTs (M984A4, M978A4, Etc.) FMTVs (M1078-M1089A1P2) STRYKERs, (JLTV’s (1278, 1280A1) and Trailers for equipment i.e.; M1076, M1082, M1095, M870 series to include Flat racks.
  2. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM).
  3. Performs annual service on equipment fleet.
  4. Performs a full range of overhaul, repair, and service on all Heavy Wheeled equipment maintenance at the Field and Sustainment level of Maintenance.
  5. Inspects, repairs, and replaces components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.
  6. Identifies parts in repair manuals and places order request for needed parts.
  7. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on various pieces of wheeled equipment including but not limited to military and civilian engineer equipment.
  8. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
  9. Able to read and understand Hydraulic and Electric diagrams and schematics.
  10. Has experience in hydraulic hose fabrication.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
  12. Maintain a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensuring times are accurate.
  13. All APS-2 contractor mechanics are expected to provide their own basic mechanics tool set.

Minimum Requirements

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic is required
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements

Specialized knowledge and skills:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Must have the ability to analyze and interpret U.S. Army Technical Manuals with relation to vehicle
    maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of GCCS-A, FEDLOG and office program is plus
  • Will be required to obtain a military driver’s license (OF 346)


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Stooping, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds by themselves-51+ with the assistance of another person, touching dexterity (hand and finger), carrying, clear seeing general, close vision, color perception, clear speech, driving vehicle, moving objects
  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively up to a 48-hour work week

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands
    to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions.
  • The employee may be exposed to situations where risk of electrical shock and vibration exist.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
