  • Supports the criminal and/or civil division under the program and technical guidance of the criminal or civil supervisory legal assistant.
  • Prepares a variety of legal documents and correspondence in final format.
  • Assists attorneys in preparing for court.
  • Scans discovery into an automated system.
  • Maintains a court calendar, assembles trial and grand jury exhibits and notebooks.
  • Maintains a variety of legal files.
  • Ensures that legal documentation is maintained correctly within specific case files.
  • Is responsible for closing files to be stored onsite and shipping closed files to be archived offsite.
  • Assists attorneys and paralegal with the electronic filing of legal documents Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) with the Court (training to be provided).
  • Reviews files and corrects any omissions in records.
  • Checks all closed files to ensure the proper procedures have been followed and the closing process is complete.
  • Assists the Administrative Division with special projects. This may include but is not limited to mail, move, court runs, etc.
  • Serves as back-up receptionist.
  • Assists with various other assignments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location
  • Requires a Paralegal Certificate, Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies or similar degree; Alternatively, (3)+ years of experience in legal environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with using Microsoft Applications required.
  • Must be able to conduct simple research using Legal Research databases.
  • Must work well under pressure and be able to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Applicant must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills are required.
  • Must be able to work in an office setting where some walking, siting, standing, bending and carrying of small office items is required.
  • Must be comfortable working in an office setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior law office experience valued.
  • Experience with WestLaw, Lexis, and or Pacer helpful.
