Tool & Fixture Machinist

Amentum is seeking a 1st shift Tool & Fixture Machinist to join our team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians in an Electrical Apparatus manufacturing facility in Waukesha, WI. Typical work schedule is 1st shift; hours may vary based on critical business demands and may include Saturday hours as needed to support production.

The Tool & Fixture Machinist is responsible for machining / maintaining tooling and die fixtures for various lines as well as assisting Mechanical and Electrical technicians with tooling of multiple equipment lines and performing preventive maintenance on the tooling, dies and fixtures for the line in an industrial manufacturing environment.

This position primarily performs machining of the tooling, assisting in die set up and changes, and performing routine PMs, as well as some troubleshooting and repair of shear fixtures and equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, automated shear line, die fixtures, heat treat equipment, CNC machine tools, quenching equipment, pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, winders and air handlers and other equipment as required, as well as HVAC, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor and/or R.O. systems and overhead cranes.

Provides intermediate level of expertise. Effectively communicates with the site management, team and the customer to understand requirements, solve electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems. Identifies and corrects any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with set up, maintenance and installation of die fixtures for the automated track shoe shear line.
  • Assists co-workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Assists the team with maintaining, operating and troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, conveyors and other equipment as required.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and performs required preventative maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc.
  • Assists in troubleshooting and making basic electrical/mechanical repairs to the machinery in the repair cell.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical systems control and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Recommends activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Five years of experience as a tool and fixture maker or machinist in an industrial environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Requires the ability to safely operate an Ariel Lift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.
  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access data bases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.
  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five to Ten years of experience as an industrial tool and die maker or machinist.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a CNC production environment.
  • Experience with welding, cutting, brazing, etc.
  • Experience in operations and maintenance in an industrial, large commercial, or logistics distribution environment.
  • Experience safely utilizing a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Forklift and/or aerial lift training and experience.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, email, etc.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, including applying proper safety practices and following procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
