Heavy Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic
The Heavy Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for all maintaining, servicing, inspecting and repairing the Kuwaiti Desert Chameleon 6x6x6 Armored Security Vehicles, as well as a variety of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, heavy trucks, trailers, cranes, forklifts, and associated equipment.
Principal Duties
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary)
- Perform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance
- Disassemble and reassemble engine components and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose problems using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc.
- Repair and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
- Repair air conditioning systems
- Rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, and bushings
- Replace seals and bearings, axel brakes
- Repair components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts, grinding, fitting, balancing, or arranging for welding or machining.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems including CAN
- Provide input and data for processing work orders, invoices, equipment repair records, and activity reports
- Perform recovery operations as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledgeable and skilled in CAN bus Architecture and ability to troubleshooting CAN systems
- Knowledgeable and skilled in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance
- Practical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratios
- Ability to read and understand electrical & hydraulic schematics, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer
- Capable of basic MIG/TIG welding as well as basic fabrication desired
- Prefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment
Experience & Education
- Military experience in Mechanical MOS strongly preferred
- Minimum five (5) years of heavy vehicle maintenance experience in heavy equipment/military/tactical environment
- Diesel tech certification preferred
- Refrigeration air-conditioning certification preferred
- Must be experienced in the repair of major systems
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license, CDL desired
- Valid Passport
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, and pull
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
- Assist in lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds
- Able to work in both inside and outside conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes, and gases from running engines and motors
