Job Summary

Reports to the Plumbing Shop Supervisor and is responsible for installation, repair & maintenance and assembly of water, sewage, drainage, air, gas, and vacuum systems; and related equipment or components installed in/outside of commercial industrial & office buildings; multi-unit residential buildings; and mechanical & communication facilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Completes daily shop request orders assigned by the Plumbing Shop Supervisor or Work Control Dispatch Center. Provides accurate completion codes and information on shop request orders upon completion of work.
  • Competently installs, connects, disassembles, troubleshoots and tests plumbing fixtures, pipes and related systems, to include but not limited to sewer lift stations, grease traps, fire sprinkler, main & feeder water supply, compressed air supply.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots major plumbing breakdowns by diagnosing and repairing or replacing systems.
  • Determines the routing of pipe and location of such plumbing fixtures, accessories, and equipment such as vent pipes, meters, gauges, hangers, brackets, and water, sewage, gas, and air connections.
  • Competently performs scheduled preventive maintenance work on systems and components, such as backflow preventers, water & air valves, flow meters, pumps, etc., as directed or assigned.
  • May be required to respond to after-hour call outs for emergency repairs.
  • May be required to act as a security escort for outside vendors as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent. Four years related experience as a General Plumber with experience working as a plumber in a municipal or military infrastructure, working with city water systems, sewage and waste water systems. State/ County Journeyman License required. Must be experienced in the use of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment such as power augers, jet pumps, and vacuum pumps for cleaning sewer lines. Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and safety practice. Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper materials. Ability to complete projects independently. Proficient in reading and understanding drawings, blueprints and schematics. Must be able to transverse utility trenches, holes and on occasion, confined spaces. Must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds. Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing and coordinating work load. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of personnel in a multi-cultural team-oriented environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required. Valid Driver’s License and passport will be required.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Word and Excel. Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
