We are now recruiting for an EHS Manager to join us permanently.

Purpose

The Corporate EHS Manager is responsible for the safe, healthy and environmental; legal and management responsibilities of the corporate functions, Amentum premises (non-project) and wider business EHS support.

  • Promotion of the company EHS culture – Safe Up: leading and supporting initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining, managing and improving the Quality Management System in accordance with the requirements of BS-EN-ISO-14001 and 45001 and other safety and environmental management standards and specifications as required.
  • Ensure additional customer requirements are interpreted and implemented in line with best practice.
  • Provide a focal point for internal and external matters relating to Safety and Envrionmental Compliance and Certification.
  • Oversee the generation and maintenance of company procedures and records ensuring compliance with the latest customer, industry and national standards/specifications.
  • Drive initiatives through effective metrics and performance measures collected from the operations which support a culture of continuous improvement at all levels.
  • Handle customer complaints and ensure effective corrective, correction and preventative actions are taken.
  • Undertake internal and external safety and environmental audits and monitor close out activities through a corrective, correction and preventative action programme.
  • LFE programme and trend analysis leading to a EH&S Improvement Plan.
  • Raise, monitor and proactively close out Non-Conformances within the Organisation and the supply chain.
  • Link with US Corporate EH&S requirements, processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sound EH&S advice and support to Amentum staff.
  • Engage with all staff, partners and suppliers to ensure their support for the Amentum SafeUpexpectations and principles.
  • Development of the company EH&S policies, plans, procedures associated workplace EH&S documents.
  • Support the EH&S Director in discharging his company EH&S responsibilities.
  • Support in supplier evaluations, business development and tender activities.
  • Manage the central EH&S legal compliance and aspects register.
  • Manage and administer the online EH&S training tool until such time as it is transferred to the training function.
  • Support company in pursuance of occupational health and mental health excellence; undertaking occupational health assessments and providing related support; and participation in the Company’s mental health and well-being steering group.
  • Point of contact for general company EH&S enquiries.
  • Take account of the health and safety risks to everyone affected by working in a corporate role in planning and managing the measures needed to control the risks to them
  • Consult and engage with workers about their health, safety and welfare, including leading the office safety committee.
  • Ensure suitable welfare facilities are provided and maintained throughout the business.
  • Check that anyone appointed has the required skills, knowledge, experience to undertake their business role.
  • Provide all corporate centre workers with specific EH&S inductions, and any further information and training they need.
  • Support the EH&S Director in the preparation of reports required on a periodic basis.
  • Support the delivery of the internal audit programme promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Undertake workplace EH&S inspections.
  • Lead the maintenance of the EHS management system to ensure its continued compliance with our certifications to ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Safety Schemes in Procurement.
  • Actively promoting improvements in attitudes and behaviours towards ESH performance.
  • Carrying out due diligence checks to ensure premises EHS management practices are legally compliant.
  • Champion office sustainability initiatives and awareness. Company lead for the Carbon Net Zero Plan.
  • Carry out incident investigations and prepare reports that detail root causes, corrections and corrective actions.
  • Support the implementation of the company’s incident reporting tool and its ongoing functionality.
  • Assisting, when required, in the preparation of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Review and appraise, when required, risk assessments, method statements and related safety control documentation arising within the business or submitted by contractors undertaking work on behalf of the organisation.
  • Deliver appropriate EH&S briefings and training presentations.
  • Lead ESH meetings as necessary.
  • Foster good collaborative relations with all stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of EHS objectives/KPIs.
  • Monitoring and support the implementation of AMENTUM’s EH&S policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Line manage EH&S staff as appropriate.
  • Deputise for the EHS Director as appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit the Company’s annual ROSPA return.
  • Proactive member of the EH&S FACT team
  • Support the business in any reasonable tasks.

Experience

  • A UK recognised EHS related degree or NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent level qualification.
  • Excellent report writing

Desirable

  • Lead auditor certificate for ISO 45001
  • If a NEBOSH Diploma is not held then a NEBOSH Certificate
  • Environmental management experience and/or IEMA membership or similar
  • Fire Safety qualification
  • This is an advanced management level position with min of 10 years of professional, related experience, including >5 years management experience.
  • Experience of working in a heavily regulated industry (e.g. Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Construction etc.)
  • Problem solving - ability to identify problems and opportunities and analyse information to develop, evaluate and implement solutions.
  • Auditing and incident investigation - ability to plan, conduct and report audits and investigations.
  • Local EHS legal requirement – understands key legal requirements in the geography in which they operate.

Due to the nature of the role and our clients, it is important that all applications have resided in the UK for at least 5 years.

We need all candidates to have BPSS clearance as a minimum, ideally be Security Cleared (SC) or have no issue in obtaining SC. A prerequisite for SC is that the applicant has lived in the UK for at least the last 5 years
