Waste Management Coordinator

Purpose and Scope:

Coordinates site Waste Management and Transportation Department daily activities. Responsible for activities of several crews generating building debris and soil wastes during the decommissioning and dismantlement of the SM-1 Reactor at Ft. Belvoir Virginia.

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Coordinates activities of workers engaged in waste container packaging, transportation logistics, shipping paper development and tracking waste shipments to the disposal site.

2) Coordinates with site operations manager on container inspections, loading and transport securement for Over The Road shipments of Low Level Radiological Waste.

3) Performs LLRW, Mixed Low Level Radiological Waste and Hazardous Waste Inventory inspections in site waste storage areas.

4) Documents waste container tracking both on site and off-site during transport cycles.

5) Interfaces with transportation and disposal companies as needed to ensure compliant logistics process are followed.

6) Prioritizes and oversees implementation of daily workload demands versus availability of equipment and personnel.

7) Supports the work of skilled and semi-skilled employees during waste container loading operations.

8) Engages in safety training for all Waste Management activities. Assists with training of personnel in the compliant management of waste.

9) Ensures all permits are obtained for transportation of generated waste.

10) Secures the cooperation of other crafts/trades supervisors and instills within the assigned electrical staff the cooperative attitude necessary for working closely with other maintenance trade workers.

11) Coordinates with Site Manager and Operations Staff for support when needed.

12) Inventories and keeps records of materials and supplies received, used and held in stock. Protects property from abuse and/or misuse.

15) Documents notable incident of individual work performance, safety practices, and concerns.

16) Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Five (5) years of experience in the Waste Management Field (Solid and Wastewater).Three (3) years of experience leading a crew. Experience in a high volume operations environment. Current DOT and RCRA Hazardous materials training and qualifications. Experience with OTR trucking and rail shipments of hazardous materials. Experience with decommissioning and dismantlement operations is a plus. Capable of working with multifaceted teams within strict project guidelines. Extensive attentions to detail regarding compliance and reguaotry documentation. DOT and RCRA/TSCA waste containerization, marking, labeling and tracking of waste storage restrictions. Communicate operation improvement opportunities and evolutions. MUST adhere to all site safety requirements and comply with site work control documentation. Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is conducted on and around the United States Army base at Ft. Belvoir. Moderate walking and standing will encompass most of the physical strain. Hot and Cold temperatures will need to be tolerated as a portion of this job is field located. The position is technical in nature and demands a high level of focus and regulatory compliance. Waste and Transportation management experience is a must. Personnel without a history of waste management will not be considered.
