Supply Supervisor

Reporting to the Full Time Supply/Logistics Supervisor, the contract Supply Supervisor manages the Supply and ATO (Air Transportation Operations) team at McMurdo station during the austral winter season. This involves high level weekly tasking guidance and planning for the department. As necessary assists end-users with materials database information for station supply product needs. Upholds processes and procedures related to inventory control. Supervises, work alongside, trains, and develops team members. Provides professional customer service to internal and external clients. As the Senior T&L position on station, this role will interact with station management, the National Science Foundation, military, and other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner; is responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate management of ASC and NSF material as well as developing and implementing team goals as set by Supply and ATO management. This position is accountable for the direct supervision of the work activities of the T&L winter team. The planning, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required and making recommendations concerning performance appraisal and professional development.

Position Responsibilities:

  • 45% Managing Process: Ensures all operations procedures are followed effectively, identifies and recommends needed changes to Supply Department Management on the standardized processes for the functional area. Evaluates and analyzes current work methods and recommends ways to eliminate inefficiencies. Maintains a safe workplace and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Confirms and signs all weekly staff timecards, ensuring labor allocations are charge correctly. Completes and reviews all performance evaluations for the team.
  • 20% Coaching and Developing Associates: Guides personnel in daily operations, and monitors to ensure a high degree of productivity, safety, service and quality. Responsible for the training, coaching and feedback of Supply Technicians in ERP systems, customer service, inventory management, air transportation operations, and other Supply functions as required for station operation. Provides mentoring, coaching and counseling to associates regarding job performance and methods of performing job tasks. Resolves personnel relation issues that arise in assigned functional areas. Investigates operational errors to determine the cause and recommends corrective action where needed.
  • 20% Drives Results: Maintains inventory accuracy and control; creates reports to identify areas of improvement for key metrics including retrograde, inventory accuracy, quality and expenses.
  • 10% Business Planning: Coordinates and monitors operations with the functional area to ensure performance production rates are consistent with business plan and pattern, reducing irregularities and damages. Reviews reports and business metrics to analyze and plan staffing needs for optimum department operations.
  • 5% Additional Responsibilities: Manages the ATO (Air Transportation Operation), coordinating transportation assets, personnel support, and equipment necessary to successfully conduct flight operations; including coordination of northbound cargo planning and processing as needed for flight operations. Monitor Supply department’s vehicle/equipment checklists & Operating Status to ensure readiness to support town and airfield requirements.
  • As the senior T&L person on station, the supervisor will interact with station management, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner.
  • Cross trains with other departments within Transportation and Logistics which may include operation of heavy equipment and over-sized tundra vehicle operation.
  • Trains in vessel offload procedures and processes. May be assigned any role and work any shift in a 24-hour period during vessel offload or during other special operations while deployed.
  • Completes annual light vehicle, forklift and inventory management system training classes when deployed.
  • Assists with runway operations during seasonal transition and ongoing winter flights.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supply Department management; outdoor work will be required in varying temperatures.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

  • BA/BS Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management plus 1 year of experience working in any of the following fields: Inventory materials management, warehousing, cargo/transportation, supply chain or logistics or a minimum of two season experience working in the Transportation and Logistics (T&L) department or related areas in Antarctica. 5 years of experience or a minimum of two season experience working in the Transportation and Logistics (T&L) department or related areas in Antarctica will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Three of the five years’ experience must be in a supervisory role.

Preferred:

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • IBM Maximo experience.
  • Previous deployment to Antarctica or experience with remote site Logistics operations is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with government supply systems and inventory accounting requirements is strongly preferred.
  • Previous AMC Load Planning experience.

Physical and/or Other Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
