This role, under general supervision, processes refill authorization and prior authorization requests in a centralized office location for participating Primary Care providers.

If you are located in Tampa, FL area, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicates patient requests/concerns to provider or nurse verbally or in writing
  • Assists in the coordination of clerical information necessary to provide excellent patient care and outstanding customer service
  • Prepares refill and prior authorization requests for review by the provider as directed by department protocols
  • Schedules appointments if necessary
  • Arranges lab tests if prescribed by provider
  • Enters/gathers patient information in the EHR to process refill and prior authorization requests
  • Fosters positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, providers, and patients
  • Documents pertinent information in the EHR
  • Communicates with patients verbally or in writing as directed by department protocols
  • Communicates with pharmacies and health plans via fax, phone, and electronic portals
  • Follows written and oral instructions and completes routine tasks independently
  • Completes assigned trainings

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate, GED or equivalent
  • Current FL State Department of Health Pharmacy Technician license
  • Live Locally to Tampa, FL
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy technician and/or customer service call center experience
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical/medical terms and abbreviations
  • Knowledge of medication refill and prior authorization processes
  • Basic computer skills including ability to enter patient data and navigate applications including EHR (Allscripts), Intranet, and Microsoft Office Tools
  • Math skills for usual medication dosage and determination
  • Outstanding customer service skills
