This unit supports the care continuum for the post-surgical cardiac patient. Nurses provide specialized acute care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. It is recognized as a Center of Excellence for left ventricular assist device implantation and management and care of the patient after heart transplantation surgery. Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions. Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient’s progress from the immediate post-op period through discharge. The Cardiac stepdown division (7200) supports the care continuum for post-surgical cardiac patients. The team provides specialized acute care in a fast-paced environment.? Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions.? Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient's progress from the immediate post-op period all the way through discharge.? Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Under the direction of manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care as needed and functions as clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates and documents the nursing process of assigned unit as needed.

Responsibilities

Participates in professional developmentPromotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.Provides unit leadership for defined period of time using critical thinking assessment and evaluation skills.Evaluate patients response and modifies plan of care accordingly throughout the patients' stay.
