The operating room at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania is looking for a Nursing Clinical Coordinator to join their team: weekend - night shift!

Summary:

The Perioperative Nursing Clinical Coordinator actively participates in a collaborative/consultative/supportive role with the Anesthesia Coordinator and members of the Perioperative Leadership team to assure efficient patient flow and quality patient care. Perioperative Nursing Clinical Coordinator also works collaboratively with the nursing in-patient units and perioperative services personnel.

He/she facilitates patient flow and efficient/appropriate patient placements. Participates in the HUP OR Scheduling and Periop Safety check-ins. He/she supports use of the EPIC tool in communicating surgical procedure case classification, notification of impending transfers, EVS requests, bed requests, case assignments, hallmarks and other functions. He/she identifies, problem-solves, communicates and delegates to facilitate patient flow and EPIC system maintenance.

He/she directs, supervises, evaluates and supports patient care activities; serves as a resource to staff nurses and other department(s) personnel on clinical practice and is a resource for implementation/ interpretation of hospital and nursing policies and procedures. Responsible for overseeing daily safety tasks and checklists for the department. He/she promotes excellence in departmental programs/projects on the off-shifts and supports ongoing educational activities.

He/she coordinates staffing of the Periop department on a day-to-day basis, 24/7, 365 days/year, weekends and holidays, including making software (computer) and operational adjustments to projected staffing for levels of care, staffing guidelines, low census, sick calls and staff competency. Based on needs of the unit, this individual may also serve in the capacity as a clinical nurse in the operating room. Follows fiscal and Human Resources policies in determining staff utilization and distribution. He/she is the primary nursing responder in the Rapid Response Service.

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
  • Pennsylvania RN licensure
  • 2-5 years of OR nursing experience preferred; not required. Charge nurse experience/skills with facilitating patient flow highly preferred.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing (Required)
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing and More than 15 months relevant professional nursing experience and completion of the Nurse Residency Program, if applicable.
