Bristol Myers Squibb

Intern, Mechanisms of Cancer Resistance - Computational Biology (Summer 2023)

Director of Nursing

Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated student for a 10 week summer internship with the Cambridge, MA Predictive Sciences group. A successful candidate will work with their mentor to investigate machine learning methods for the analysis of novel genetic perturbation screens. These analytical approaches will motivate our understanding of key relationships between protein structure and function in traditionally undruggable genetic drivers of cancer. The candidate will work closely with experienced computational biologists and multidisciplinary research teams to understand the early stages of target proposal and screening in the drug development pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn about cutting edge functional genomics technologies to elucidate oncogenic protein function
  • Understand, evaluate, and optimize existing machine learning algorithms for signal detection of high-throughput NGS-based tiling/mutagenesis screening data.
  • Interrogate the relationship between experimental screening data and structural/functional prediction methods to understand therapeutic opportunities for oncogenic targets
  • Deliver and communicate analysis results to the team

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in R (or similar language) and data analysis
  • Strong foundation in statistics
  • Experience with functional genomics screening platform (CRISPR, RNAi) analysis and/or structural biology is a plus
  • Master or PhD student enrolled in bioinformatics, life sciences, computer science, statistics, or related fields
  • Must be able to work full-time for 10 week program duration
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
