About the Role
The Director of Rebate Strategy, Industry Relations is responsible for developing rebate and contract strategies to improve the access and affordability of healthcare, specifically for pharmaceutical products on OptumRx and custom client formularies. This position is part of a cross functional internal team (Finance / Accounting, Clinical, Legal, Contract Specialist, Client Management) developing and managing rebate and contract strategies for over 60 therapeutic classes for UHG clients.

Primary Responsibilities:
- The US healthcare market with respect to OptumRx pharmacy benefit design and operations
- Financial modeling and strategic business analytics for rebate and contract optimization and net cost strategy assessment of pharmaceutical products
- Drug product strategy development in collaboration with internal colleagues. Compare and value differing strategies based on generated data
- Present potential strategies to internal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner including key senior leaders within OptumRx
- Knowledge of multiple therapeutic categories for manufacturer assignments (e.g. CV, Diabetes, Respiratory disease)
- An understanding and knowledge of established clinical guidelines determined by OptumRx P&T
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers and develop strategies that supports management initiatives.
- Drive ideas forward and obtain cross functional buy - in based on the analysis of effectiveness of drugs, drug cost, and drug market share
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a managed care setting such as a PBM or health plan
- Strategy development, contracting knowledge, and contract review experience
- Analytical experience in financial analysis, healthcare pricing, network management, healthcare economics, or related discipline
- Proven ability to work well and collaboratively, with multiple teams or departments for business growth or profitability goals
- Previous experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare roles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying complex or technical information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret complex information
- Strong interpersonal skills, establishing rapport and working well with others
Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree in Pharmacy
- Advanced degree (MBA or PharmD)
- Experience in leading a team
- Experience in pharmaceutical industry context
