The Market & Customer Insights Consultant - focusing on the Optum Rx business including areas such as specialty, home delivery, and home infusion - will deliver actionable market, customer, and competitor insights and strategic recommendations to key executives within target business areas - sales, marketing, strategy, and product management. To do this, the Market & Customer Insights Consultant will conduct primary and secondary research initiatives, transforming competitive and market data into purposeful insights that are understandable, accurate, relevant, and actionable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a research consultant, identify stakeholder needs and lead market research and competitive intelligence efforts, both secondary and primary, for the Optum Rx business
  • Develop research plans to support competitive and market intelligence gathering, assuring delivery of research on time and within budget
  • Manage research initiatives by implementing the entire research process, defining the research scope and budget, selecting the appropriate research methodologies, managing research vendor relations and procurement process, interpreting data and information, synthesizing disparate data, developing reports, and presenting research findings and implications to business partners
  • Collect and perform analysis on multiple disparate pieces of competitive and market intelligence, identifying insights and recommendations for strategic actions
  • Manage and implement internal systems, templates, and tools to maximize the efficient delivery of market and competitive intelligence
  • Contextualize external market trends across macroeconomic, market, and competitor environments into implications for the business
  • Present research findings and implications to all levels within the organization
  • Monitor news and information sources for impactful stories or trends, gathering data about Optum Rx competitors, customers, and partners, and keeping leaders and stakeholders aware of the latest relevant information
  • Collaborate with other Market & Customer Insights members on the Optum Rx team to deliver integrated, strategic insights to the business

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in market research and/or competitive intelligence
  • Demonstrable experience with primary and secondary research methodologies
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and market research tools
  • Experienced and comfortable with presenting in person and via WebEx, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams to large groups at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to tell a story and provide a point of view and recommendations using data to influence leaders
  • Able to travel up to 10%, on occasion as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA/MHA/MPH
  • Experience in the PBM industry or pharmacy care services
  • Experience in the healthcare space
  • Ability to use various competitive intelligence methodologies (SWOT, Porter’s 5 Forces, PEST, etc.)
  • Ability to build partnerships and trust with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Be a self-starter and able to work independently; work with a sense of urgency and be comfortable with ambiguity and constant change; approach work in an enthusiastic, positive, and collaborative manner
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize deliverables
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
