Positions in this function provide legal and regulatory advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations, risks and privileges of the organization. This position will lead the Regulatory Affairs team that supports the Medicare and Retirement business. This team is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, communicating and assisting the business with implementing statutory, regulatory and sub-regulatory guidance that impacts that Medicare and Retirement business. This team also works with their business partners to provide feedback when advocacy opportunities arise. In addition, this team works closely with the business on the annual CMS application and contracting process. In this position, you will acquire deep knowledge of the industry and the specific business practices of this particular business within UnitedHealth Group, so as to best advise senior business leaders. You will also provide a full range of legal advice and services and may specialize in one of more areas such as, transactional work, commercial law, contracts law, benefit law, insurance law, regulatory and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • 7+ years of legal experience
  • Experience collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment
  • Experience with regulatory agencies and administrative experience with federal and state insurance regulations
  • Experience with evaluating and determining appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs
  • Experience with building and maintaining rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts
  • Knowledge of U.S., state contract, corporate health care, and regulatory law
  • Understanding of health care benefit coverage
  • Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects
  • Ability to travel domestically, up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Managed care legal experience
  • Knowledge of health insurance and/or managed care industry

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100.
