Summary:

  • Serves as an adjunct to the Director of Behavioral health in coordinating utilization management and auditing in the administrative oversight of revenue cycle functions in PPMC's Behavioral Health's Inpatient and Outpatient locations including patient sign-in and registration, time-of-service collections, charge posting, payment plans, claim denial research and audit procedures. This position requires collaborative partnerships across the PPMC System including Patient Financial Services, Patient Access, MSO, PPMC Physicians Group, Counselors, Health Information Management, and various other entities across the PPMC Behavioral Health continuum.

Responsibilities:

  • Audits PPMC Behavioral Health registrations (electronic and paper forms) for completion and accuracy in line with department policy, making corrections as needed. Tracks registration accuracy rates for registrations reporting to administration as requested. Provides direct feedback to individual staff as needed.
  • Trains new staff in all procedures related to pre-registration and registration of patients in multiple PPMC IT systems including, but not limited to insurance verification programs, EPIC, PA WITS, etc. Offers an overview of health insurance and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and the proper procedure for collecting complete and accurate demographic and insurance policy information.
  • Assists unit staff with questions related to benefits and registrations.
  • Assists with behavioral health denials related to registrations, Revenue Codes, charges, etc. Offers support across the PPMC Behavioral Health Continuum for denials related to registrations.
  • Serves as a liaison between Patient Financial Services, Patient Access and PPMC Behavioral Health for issues related to registrations, billing and claims Assists the Tech Team, HIM and Contract Management departments as needed relating to these issues.
  • Responsible for DNFB and 837 Exception reports for research and correction of accounts as needed.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to registration and insurance.
  • Assists in the development of quality improvement initiatives across PPMC Behavioral Health related to revenue and related processes.
  • Tracks and trends denied claims as related to registration and insurance verification issues.
  • Attends monthly Accounts Receivable and Insurance Plan Code Committee meetings and communicates information received. Attends other Revenue Cycle meetings as required.
  • Assists with special projects relating to registrations, data imaging, systems testing or other areas of the Revenue Cycle as required.
  • Assists with patient registrations and sign-ins as needed.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 1+ years Experience in working behavioral health claims
  • Certificate in Business Management and/or Leadership preferred
  • Associate of Arts or Science preferred
