This position is responsible for supporting population health team. The team is responsible for developing, producing, and distributing identification and stratification tools to the health care delivery teams within the Optum Health. Role includes researching, supporting program analytical portfolios, and identifying key business problems. Additional responsibilities involve strategic trend identification, monitoring medical cost trend, issue resolution and technical solutions related to data, data flow and algorithm development. Partners to develops and improve identification and stratification models performance. Interprets and analyzes clinical data from various sources and recommends best approaches for its consolidation and use to support patient care and business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops full understanding of Population Health Analytics programs and goals
  • Performs statistical analyses to monitor quality and completeness of the concepts extracted by the NLP engine.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate analytic approaches and methodologies
  • Works with clinical, operational, and technical teams to identify and prioritize the domains and subjects for NLP concept extraction.
  • Designs, produces and supports development of dashboards and key performance indicator reports to meet customer requirements and monitor quality and completeness of NLP extracts
  • Participates in the planning, development, and deployment of business strategy when necessary
  • Communicates results to relevant audiences and incorporates results into forecasting process and reporting
  • Works with internal teams (e.g. HCE, DS, IT) to build ongoing reporting needs into the production environment
  • Support of operations, project work, and innovative/exploratory analyses and supports the performance of the HCE team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Health Administration, Mathematics or related field or relevant field with 5+ years of healthcare experience
  • 5+ years of experience in health care analytics. Experience with behavioral health and / or Medicare SNP populations
  • 2+ years of analyzing NLP extracts
  • Experience with Snowflake or Tableau
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with SQL
  • Proficient MS Excel skills for data analysis, presentation preparation and reporting

Preferred Qualification:

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present ideas and concepts effectively

CDM Population Health: This position will support the acceleration of analysis and inclusion of NLP extracts from the EMR notes in population health machine learning models. It will support the development of processes which will deliver the NLP extracts reliably to IQ Studio for use the ML models. It will partner with the OLA team to prioritize NLP extracts for inclusion and measure the impact of their inclusion in the ML models

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
