Supervisor of Patient Access in our Waterville Maine location will partner the Manager, in continuing on the path of making Northern Light Inland Hospital Patient Access the crown jewel of the Northern Light Health Patient Access system. This person will help to carry out goals set to make great things happen and has the ability to bring new ideas to the table. You will foster a can-do attitude towards POS collections while simultaneously providing a positive patient experience. The Supervisor will assist in cultivating a work environment that employees that feel engaged, happy, and professionally fulfilled.

This position directly supervises Patient Access staff, ensures the department is adequately staffed to fulfill daily operations, and assists leadership in keeping statistical records, monitoring measurable metrics/KPIs and performing audits as necessary. This position will act as a subject matter expert for applicable workflows, metrics, and applications, addressing team needs and escalating as appropriate.

The Supervisor, Patient Access will assist the Manager with providing direction and leadership to the Patient Access areas such as central registration, emergency department, scheduling teams, financial counseling, and switchboard.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Manager with overseeing the Patient Access Department
  • Encourages staff to reach full performance potential and productivity expectations
  • Prepares the staff schedule and is available nights and weekends to handle staff call outs and refilling the schedule with staff
  • Addresses employee questions and needs to find appropriate and timely solutions
  • Covers in areas where staff may be low

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience working in a hospital patient access registration department, or physician office setting
  • Word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, data base experience and other computer related skills
  • Registration and insurance platforms experience
  • Leadership or Mentorship experience
  • Current knowledge of Patient Access processes, systems and regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with Cerner and Experian
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement techniques are essential to success, as is the ability to be a self-starter and work independently to move projects successfully forward
  • Proficiency with: Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
