The Associate Director, Actuarial Business Liaison role is within UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement, Insurance Solutions, and will provide support for membership and premium projections of AARP Medicare Supplement plans. The role serves as the Actuarial business liaison for all membership and premium projections for the Medicare Supplement plans nationwide.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S., preferably in Horsham, PA, as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the liaison and point of contact between the global data analytics team and actuarial
  • Understand and interpret key drivers of enrollment and premium trends
  • Conduct and evaluate studies on projections at a very granular level
  • Create, modify, and test actuarial models appropriate for business needs
  • Apply actuarial concepts and business knowledge to solve complex business challenges
  • Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences including senior leaders
  • Determine the impact on premium, sales, lapses, etc. of various health product proposals
  • Prepare and sign required regulatory and statutory filings
  • Appropriately balance actuarial theory with practical business realities (i.e. time/resource constraints, data availability, market conditions)
  • Communicate with, and influence the decisions of, senior leaders, external consultants, and clients
  • Lead by casting a United values-driven leadership shadow to positively influence employee engagement and performance
  • Interpret, adhere to, and apply relevant state and federal laws/regs (i.e. STAT, rating)
  • Interpret, adhere to, and apply actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of Actuarial experience in the insurance industry (pricing, claims forecasting, healthcare economics, reserving, risk management, or similar)
  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
  • Proven track record of strong analytical skills, communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, quick-learning, proactive, and capable of working independently
  • Advanced or higher level of proficiency with Excel
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medicare Supplement experience
  • Experience with allocation and projections of enrollment and premium
  • At least a basic level of proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
