The UnitedHealth Group Supplier Risk Management Program is a dynamic business within the Enterprise Sourcing and Procurement Organization. It provides vital support to Optum and UnitedHealthcare businesses to ensure the enterprise manages risk mitigation activities at the highest level across our third-party supplier base. The Associate Director, Enterprise Supplier Risk Management is a new role that will be relied on to support risk strategy, the development of best practices for risk mitigation and to serve as the primary liaison across our legal, compliance and auditing teams.

This individual contributor role will work cross-functionally across Enterprise Supplier Management, Sourcing and Procurement and Legal and Specialty Risk teams to build relationships and garner alignment on the evolving supplier risk landscape. As Associate Director, you will be responsible for developing a risk strategy for the Supplier Risk and Performance Management Program. Focus will be on developing enterprise supplier oversight tools, enhancing standard operating procedures, building alignment with legal and compliance teams, and establishing best practices for risk mitigation throughout the supplier lifecycle. You will be a critical component of the Risk team, creating a “best in class” risk management program while simultaneously supporting and guiding risk mitigation activities throughout the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction by driving enhancements that exceed expectations, achieve desired business outcomes, and deliver functionality in ways that drive adoption
  • Maintain program reporting, metrics and dashboards that present relevant data tailored to risk management for executive audiences. This includes Executive Vendor Risk Compliance, Major Business Objectives and CFO presentations
  • Monitor risk trends and external landscape to develop strategy and future vision
  • Oversee the UHG Supplier Management Organization (SMO) and manages all related SMO activities
  • Create and Ensure adherence to internal policies, standards, and procedures with suppliers to improve risk posture and minimize risk to the organization
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert and Builds collaborative relationships with Legal, Specialty Risk, Merger & Acquisition, Optimization and Supplier Management Organizations
  • Act as primary contact for Compliance, Legal and Audit, educates team on regulatory changes and initiatives that impact the risk program
  • Create and inventories responses for UHC and Optum Proposal requests
  • Develop and provides training presentations; takes lead in team risk communications
  • Define, present, and defend key technology system enhancements and integration efforts across Corporate Services and the Optimization & Strategy team including RPO, Harvester and Mercury
  • Project Management as assigned, including regulatory compliance projects (e.g. GDPR readiness, Cybersecurity regulation readiness) and continuous process improvement initiatives
  • Manage Vendor artifacts and activities out of scope for ES&P (eGRC, Internal Communication Forms)
  • Monitor trends and external regulatory landscape to build future vision of Risk Program and technology
  • Leadership presence and proven ability to influence and drive business impact
  • Effectively Consults with Business Leaders and Understands the best way to find solutions to business problem

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of experience in risk management, legal or compliance services, information security or other risk-related operational teams
  • Legal, Compliance and Risk mitigation acumen
  • Able to effectively manage conflict, mediate and find win/win solutions
  • Demonstrates mastery of Risk Management practices
  • Intermediate or advanced skill level with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree, such as MBA or Juris Doctorate
  • Supplier or Vendor Risk Management experience
  • RSA Archer experience
  • ServiceNow experience
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and can work with ambiguity
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
