The role of Associate Director, Communications, plays a critical role in rallying internal and external sales stakeholders to ensure they have the information they need to deliver on our mission. Work within Government Programs Sales Strategy and Experience in a role that leverages internal and external communications expertise, business acumen and interpersonal skills to design and deliver communication programs that educate and support sales agents and sales leaders. This individual will drive strategy and execution for external communications to our 95K+ sales agents and internal communications to our 2400 team members and play a key role in developing high-impact programs and communications to advance our strategic priorities. This includes defining and implementing communication strategies based on audience requirements and needs.

This position requires a highly motivated, self-sufficient individual who can effectively interact with a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, and quickly develop an in-depth understanding of Government Program’s sales initiatives, priorities and programs. Essential qualities for success in this position include a collaborative nature, uncompromising eye for quality, exceptional writing skills, strong interpersonal skills, superior organizational skills, program management skills, resourcefulness, the flexibility to effectively and quickly adapt to changing priorities and a willingness to dive in and execute on plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define/implement overall communication strategies based on identified needs of the business (e.g., how communications can support the needs of the business)
  • Develop annual communications plan including content strategy and manage end-to-end implementation across the team. Ensure stakeholders are informed on the UnitedHealthcare value proposition
  • Lead creation of communications content, tailored to the specific medium and audience requirements. Define voice and tone guidelines to be used across communications
  • Lead end-to-end mainstage production planning and execution for national events
  • Support senior leaders with development of scripting and materials for national events and townhalls
  • Work with cross-functional partners including product and marketing, to drive consistent messaging for national events with alignment to business priorities
  • Establish measurement plan for communications and use data to set and adapt strategies. Focus on continuous improvement - in productivity of team, channel effectiveness, and employee engagement
  • Influence internal business leaders to advocate for and optimize the sales agent experience regarding communications (e.g., tone, frequency, content), helping to set sales agents up for success when meeting with our current and/or future members
  • Lead, develop, and motivate direct reports while demonstrating and advancing our values of integrity, compassion, relationships, innovation and performance

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 8+ years of internal communications experience within a matrixed organization
  • 8+ years of professional writing and editing experience
  • Experience with communications measurement and reporting
  • Experience with project management experience
  • Experience managing multiple responsibilities and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or Journalism
  • Experience working in health care
  • Experience leading a team
