The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Associate Director, Air Compliance and Strategy within the Environmental Center of Excellence. The individual in this role will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and sustaining strategic air compliance programs and initiatives to drive best in class stewardship in our operational and capital project activities while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and alignment with the BMS standards.
The position will proactively inform leadership of upcoming regulatory impacts, monitor air compliance risks, and collaborate with the cross functional teams to achieve corporate and Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EOHSS) goals. This position plays a key role in the Global Environmental Center of Excellence and reports to the Executive Director and Global Lead, Environmental Center of Excellence.
Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Develop a sustainable air compliance program.
Update existing standards to align with global regulations and industry good practices.
Review and provide technical support for air permits, air/GHG reports and other air-related documents.
Track regulatory actions, actively engage with industry groups and agencies to create meaningful regulations, legislation, and guidance documents.
Work collaboratively with Field EHS to respond to compliance violations or potential violations.
Create tools and training programs to assist assets with air compliance. Develop processes to track asset emissions (Scope 1) in the electronic EHS management system for reporting purposes and to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Research innovative technologies that comply with regulatory requirements while reducing emissions. Collaborate with various diverse teams to design and implement emission reduction opportunities.
Participate in EOHSS self-assessments/audits.
Mentor and/or cross-train peers.
Review and ensure accurate and complete resolution of issues as they arise and escalates concerns, with urgency to appropriate leaders in the organization.
Effectively able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, technical subject matter at all organizational levels and functions.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental, physical sciences, engineering. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
Minimum of ten (10) plus years Clean Air Act and/or Global air compliance experience.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of global air/GHG requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge working with Capital project teams.
Demonstrated ability to work with and be a leader in a diverse team setting.
Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and EHS systems like ENABLON (or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in chemical or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
