The Medical Excellence, Training, and Policy Team plays a critical role in ensuring that healthcare providers are educated on the appropriate use of our medicines and have the information they need to improve outcomes for their patients. We develop strategies, tools, and guidance to empower Field Medical (FM) teams across the globe to perform effectively and compliantly thereby ensuring high quality scientific exchange with the healthcare community. The Senior Director, FM Strategy is responsible to develop and execute strategies which are driving the standardization of FM activities worldwide and across all TAs, to improve consistency and effectiveness of the FM role, and to support high quality FM exchange with Healthcare Communities/Thought Leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Reports to the Executive Director, Medical Excellence, Training, and Policy team within Scientific Communications & Engagement organization.
- Serves as a member of the Medical Excellence, Training, and Policy leadership team & extended member of the Scientific Communications & Engagement organization.
- Ensures WW consistency of FM roles, responsibilities, and activities through ongoing collaboration with FM Management, FM/Medical Operations Leads and/or other stakeholders (as appropriate) across all markets and applicable cross-functional WW teams to:
- Drives development of standardized performance measures (i.e. annual FM Objectives Guidance) and work across markets to implement improvement, where applicable
- Measure and implement FM retention strategies
- Partners with all teams within the Medical Excellence, Training, and Policy organization to deliver on shared goals:
- Partners with Medical Policy Governance team to standardize policy, procedures, and compliance metrics, as appropriate
- Partners with Medical Learning team on functional training priorities for new hires
- Partner with Therapeutic areas (TA) and Scientific Communications Training team to enhance TA knowledge and functional skills training
- Drives Field Medical Line Manager meeting to prioritize FM book of work, aligned to Medical strategy.
- Accountable for sharing best practices across WW FM community through establishment of a WW community of practice.
- Drives benchmarking both within BMS and for BMS’s participation in cross-industry benchmarking.
- Provides insight on FM value and opportunities for improvement to internal stakeholders, inclusive of Market Commercial and Medical Leaders.
- Leads ongoing continuous improvement initiatives in Field Medical organization.
- Responsible for developing strategy and plans to ensure effectiveness of the Japan FM team across all therapeutic areas (TAs).
- Leads a team of FM Strategy colleagues to ensure alignment and consistent support across all markets.
Qualifications & Experience
- Advance scientific degree required. PharmD or PhD preferred.
- 8+ years of industry FM experience (either as FM, FM First Line Manager or comparable leader) and a proven ability to lead change across cultures and geographies.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry and understanding of environmental/industry trends and their impact on the business.
- Demonstration of senior leadership across multi-functional and multi-cultural teams (medical, marketing, legal, etc.) within a complex matrix environment.
- Ability to set strategic direction, pull-through execution, evolve key performance indicators (KPIs) for FM, and measure against well-established KPIs.
- Proven ability to think strategically, innovate, and rapidly adapt to a changing environment.
- Strong communication skills (fluency in English), strong presentation skills to effectively communicate ideas to accomplish challenging objectives, and able to influence others including senior management.
- Proven project management skills, experienced with the Microsoft Office suite (including MS Teams, SharePoint), and experienced with business/process redesign and change management.
- International experience and ability & willingness to travel nationally/internationally (~20% based on requirements).
