The Director, Supply Chain Solutions is will be a key contributor in the develop of the Optum supply chain innovation and product strategy. This position is responsible for leading the engagement through both remote and onsite work assisting the coordination across all functional teams including business operations, product, technology, human capital, legal, innovation and transformation teams. All leaders on the Innovation team are expected to be hands-on with project design and deliverable creation for customers.

The role of the Supply Chain Solutions team is to create and implement the strategic vision of supply chain services for Optum Advisory Services including supply chain innovation and product opportunities to identify financial and operational opportunities at potential clients, and to forge partnerships with clients and internal and external business partnes to address those opportunities and support long-term financial viability for client health systems. There are several projects associated with continuous improvement of our valuation methodology, product innovation needs and supply chain transformation redesign based on process improvement, technology integration, and strategic partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative benchmarks using historical supply chain cost per unit of service for purchased services, physician preference items, commodities and pharmacy
  • Develop buy-in from key client and partner leadership and maintains collaborative relationships
  • Create a trusted partner relationship with client and other partner executives
  • Develop clear and concise updates to senior leadership at the potential client site and within Optum
  • Assist with the planned Optum shared services center development and staffing
  • Provide recommendations for Optum supply chain partnerships
  • Assist with the development of the new Optum aggregration group
  • Review problem areas identified and validates benefit estimates and financial models
  • Develop timelines and project plans for the completion of the assessment and full due diligence process
  • Monitor Optum progress toward key milestones and provides regular updates and escalates (as appropriate) to internal and external key stakeholders
  • Complete the final draft of benefits based on high level assessment and full due diligence efforts, coordinates with key internal and external stakeholders to create buy-in and to obtain sign-off
  • Contribute to potential client evaluation methodology development and other functional assignments as assigned, including developing strategic partnerships with outside companies to provide an end-to-end solutions
  • Serve as a key contact and solution design lead for partnerships with third parties in the supply chain industry whose ability to impact client performance aligns with Optum’s strategic objectives and needs
  • Participate in the development of sales materials in preparation for initial and ongoing client conversations
  • Attend industry conferences and acts as a subject matter expert for Optum
  • Present to large groups well and has the ability to adjust message to audience (CFO, COO, CEO, and VP of Supply Chain)

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 10+ years of Supply Chain Transformation consulting and/or Supply Chain experience in the hospital setting
  • 8+ years of Health System supply chain management experience
  • C-Suite presentation experience
  • Experience managing through strategic shift or redirection
  • Methodology development experience
  • Project Management skills - experience managing multiple projects and constituents
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Proven successful at navigating matrixed relationships and strategic partnerships


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration; Master of Health Administration
  • Experience in hospital management and/or leading complex supply chain transformation consulting engagements
  • Experience revamping methodology
