The Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing the enterprise transformation office (ETO) that Optum provides to a partner health system as a managed service. This position reports to and collaborates closely with the VP of Analytics & Transformation and is primarily responsible for maintaining portfolio alignment with strategic objectives, facilitating integrated project prioritization and planning, ensuring transparency to program / project execution, and enabling standard methodologies for portfolio, project, and change management, as well as process improvement.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates closely with Director of Analytics and VP of Analytics & Transformation to effectively support achievement of the strategic, financial, and operational priorities of the enterprise
  • Maintains portfolio / program alignment with strategic objectives / enterprise priorities and facilitates integrated prioritization and planning
  • Oversees enterprise-wide portfolio of prioritized programs and drives accountability for effective program / project execution
  • Ensures transparency to program execution status and outcomes / benefit realization indicators through dashboard reporting, escalating exceptions
  • Identifies and supports management of cross-program / project interdependencies
  • Assesses and manages enterprise-wide program risk and supports mitigation / contingency planning in alignment with key stakeholders
  • Manages and facilitates decision-making and issue resolution
  • Performs QA reviews and approves key program / project deliverables
  • Manages key stakeholders and supports change management activities
  • Develops, implements, and monitors compliance with project management, change management / communications, and process improvement standards, tools and templates and oversees enterprise training on these standards
  • Develops understanding of the partner’s operational and technology challenges and facilitates access to appropriate Optum solution / resources
  • Oversees administration of a dynamic pool of Optum resources to address the partner’s business needs, as appropriate
  • Provides leadership to ETO team members and direct reports including coaching, mentorship, performance reviews, and conflict resolution
  • Creates a team-oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
  • Serves as key Optum representative by effectively building, managing, and maintaining relationships with health system partner executives and key stakeholders
  • Serves as a brand ambassador for Optum’s full suite of products and services to meet partner needs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in program / project management, business administration, management consulting and / or related field
  • Proven experience leading execution of complex programs / projects and / or enterprise transformations
  • Extensive knowledge of program / project management and change manage / communications principles, methodologies, techniques and tools
  • Working knowledge of Lean process improvement methodology
  • Advanced understanding of health systems / provider organizations
  • Local or willing to relocate to Bangor, Maine area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration or related field
  • PgMP or PMP Certified
  • Green belt or higher certification in Lean
  • Superb organizational skills
  • Problem solving and root cause identification skills
  • Executive presence and exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Solid leadership skills and ability to lead small and large teams to generate a vision, establish direction, create an atmosphere of trust, leverage diverse views, and encourage improvement and innovation
  • Team player and able to work with and through others
  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization and influence without authority
  • Solid analytic and decision-making abilities
