Medical Assistant Optum Tri State

The Medical Assistant will assist physicians and other medical staff by performing clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Clinical duties may include preparing treatment room for patient exams, recording patient medical history, and cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment.

Monday - Friday 9a - 5p
Saturday 9a - 1p
Primary Responsibilities:
- Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, and measure all vital signs including weight, height, blood-pressure, pulse, blood oxygen levels, and temperature; perform basic tests/screenings such as vision, hearing, urinalysis, and other physician requested screenings; document all information in patient’s chart in EPIC; assist physician in exam rooms, when necessary
- Fill out patient forms, documents, etc. as necessary; Document screenings, result notes, and patient encounters in patient’s EPIC chart; encourage and assist patients to sign up for MyChart
- Swab patients and perform basic lab testing such as rapid Covid, Influenza, Strep, RSV, Mono, Lead, Urinalysis, Glucose, Hemoccult, etc.; prepare culture specimens and other patient specimens to send out
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations including re-stocking supplies and notifying of low inventory, maintaining instruments, cleaning and disinfecting of rooms, furniture, and instruments, and keep rooms neat and organized
- Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigerator/freezer/room temperatures, test controls, patient testing documentation, hazardous waste/sharps, etc.)
- Take telephone/computer messages and provide feedback and response to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
- Draw blood: willing to learn/practice finger-sticks at a minimum (required), and venous draws on patients (recommended)
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested (the company/office reserves the right to add or change duties at any time)

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working in a healthcare setting
- Experience with EMR, EPIC, MS Word, Excel, MS outlook
- Ability to work Monday - Friday plus a Saturday rotation
- Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified medical assistant (CMA)
- Phlebotomy experience
- Confident positive manner and neat appearance (uniform required, more info upon hire)
- Able to call patients and answer the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Demonstrate patience, compassion, and caring in dealing with others; tactful
- Teamwork - Balances team and individual responsibilities; Able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives
- Demonstrate resourcefulness and willing to adapt to change; Be willing and eager to learn new things
- Be able to prioritize workload while remaining flexible
