Job Description

The Position

Medical Science Liasons (MSLs) are responsible for engaging in non-promotional, peer-to-peer communications, providing medical/scientific information to Scientific Leaders (SLs) and Key Decision Makers (KDMs), driving scientific initiatives and supporting the field force.

Role Responsibilities:

Engagement with External Leaders

  • Build trust with external scientific community by engaging in non-promotional, peer-to-peer exchange of medical and scientific information with SLs or KDMs
  • Gain deep insights on disease, therapeutic area and healthcare needs, data gaps and challenges in their local geography and report back to internal stakeholders.
  • Organize and participate in medical and scientific exchange activities, which include but are not limited to hospital lectures, journal clubs, expert input forums, and advisory boards — may take the role as presenter.
  • Represent Medical Affairs at local or regional non-promotional medical events (e.g. Medical Congresses and Symposia) — may collaborate in the coordination of pre-event scientific information and post-event scientific summaries.
  • Help execute country medical educational programs and symposia.

Internal Support

  • Formulate regional (in-country) Medical Affairs Plans and implement its activities.
  • Provide insights on the scientific gaps, ideas and other topics gathered from scientific exchange to inform areas of interest, development programs, and company strategy.
  • Support company commercial colleagues by providing on-label and/or disease state scientific training.
  • Collaborate with Medical Advisor(s) in the TA and other relevant internal stakeholders.

Competencies:

  • Ablility to communicate knowledge of the therapeutic area, through scientific exchange in different environments and with different stakeholders (one on one, lectures, etc).
  • Ability of critical lecture of the medical literature related to the therapeutic area.
  • Ability to interact with commercial, giving new potential opportunities related with the current scientific evidence.
  • Ability to analyze medical literature to evaluate the different tendencies in research.
  • Ability to communicate medical literature in a proper way to the Organon organization.
  • Strong scientific baseline knowledge in assigned therapeutic area(s).
  • Strong knowledge about clinical trial methods, implementation, and data interpretation.
  • Sound scientific understanding, and eagerness to continue learning about a specific therapeutic area.
  • Ability to present scientific and other technical information with confidence, in a way that engenders trust and credibility.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Medical degree, PhD in health sciences, PharmD or equivalent Life Sciences degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant pharmaceutical experience as a MSL or equivalent
  • Field medical experience
  • Fluent in English, German and/or French
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentations) and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced in scientific exchange and contacts with health care professionals.
  • Excellent teamplayer and strong collaboration skills and ability to function within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent project management skills and planning skills.
  • Strong prioritization skills and ability to understand how decisions fit into the broader corporate strategies.
  • Scientific knowledge of the therapeutic area is a plus.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Experience in one of the following fields: Neurology or CNS disorders.
  • Strong understanding of the compliance environment in which Medical Affairs functions.
  • Business acumen, ethics, and credible reputation with the external scientific community.
  • Ability to simplify and convey complex concepts and strategies, orally and in writing, and conduct/facilitate meetings with strong presentation skills.
