The Sr. Capability Manager is responsible for the definition & execution of a product or group of products. Major responsibilities include engaging business teams to understand their needs, designing and articulating how the capability can solve problems, and drive / lead the execution team responsible for delivering solutions that result in benefits identified. Sr. Capability Managers indirectly lead developers, architects, capability analysts, scrum masters, quality assurance, and subject matter experts to ensure business use cases and requirements are built into backlogs, are prioritized in accordance with the product roadmap, and ultimately delivered within the agreed upon scope & budget. Sr. Capability managers are required to help develop & understand the vision of the product from the point of view of multiple customers, end users and stakeholders. Capability Managers often are required to wear many hats on an agile scrum team, from writing features, documenting requirements, managing backlog, verifying and accepting user stories, creating process flows, creating data flows, while driving & communicating both the tactical and strategic vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently, or in partnership with business leaders / Capability Directors, creates capability roadmap(s), spanning business use cases, features and user stories Be responsible for product lifecycle from planning through release, includes product roadmap, product ideation, validation of market opportunity and business case, product definition, product build, operational readiness, launch and post launch performance management and adoption. Often work with multiple partners throughout the product lifecycle
  • Align organization’s development team and end users, responsible for identifying & determining the features of a product prior to its release, and where appropriate the user story level. Build relationships with customers to deeply understand their needs, infuses Voice of Customer throughout the product lifecycle. Partner with key subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify value add enhancements to existing capabilities
  • Partner with Business & Capability leads (Director, VP levels) to prioritize across customer experience, business requirements, technical capabilities, costs, and operational factors
  • Ensure delivery of business value by identifying the value & scope of agreed upon work, managing true north/OKR metrics, and establishes a backlog of ideas/features that will result in agreed upon value. Ensure features and user stories are directly linked to business goals (e.g. OKRs, KPIs)
  • Participate in technology evaluation and selection across the capability, acting as the owner of business requirements while ensuring the right technical tools are brought forward that align with UHG’s enterprise technology strategy
  • The Sr. Capability Manager will also have responsibilities of the Strategic Solutions Capability Portfolio within Automation, Re-Imagination and Transformation (ART). Responsibilities to include but not limited to portfolio strategy, assessment, execution and metrics reporting
  • Analyze, develop and maintain reports on the strategies that support the capabilities, while also supporting the planning and execution of initiatives within the portfolio
  • In this position, you will collaborate regularly with the Finance and Product Strategy teams to collect & analyze backlog and pipeline opportunities, prioritization, with particular focus on business allocations based on demand and capacity
  • As a thought leader, your focus will also be on attending critical operating model sessions and ART wide initiatives
  • Maintain customer feedback loop with stakeholders and SMEs concerning product release and customer opinion

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years working on an Agile software development project(s) and/or equivalent experience tracking, planning, or working on software development projects
  • Understanding of streaming capabilities (i.e. APIs, Kafka) and related data capabilities
  • Ability to be the front face with the customer, while representing multiple technical capabilities that could apply to business needs
  • Intermediate Level Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, OneNote, SharePoint and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Health Administration or related field
  • Agile Product Manager Certification
  • Agile Scrum Master Certification
  • 5+ years of experience in project/program leadership
  • Experience in a large matrix environment
  • CA Agile (formerly known as Rally), Aha, or equivalent agile deployment technology
  • Health care experience
  • Experience with data quality, stewardship, and governance
  • Experience with distributed event streaming platforms
  • Experience building process flows and/or architecture design diagrams
  • Customer journey mapping experience
  • Experience with managed business rules, predictive data models, and / or machine learning capabilities
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple priorities and projects
  • Ability to define strategic and tactical direction
  • Ability to identify, understand, and drive resolution of complex critical issues
  • Ability to negotiate win-win solutions across teams and lines of business (cross application / cross portfolio)
  • Ability to work with individuals with high technical acumen (e.g. development teams, architects)
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely to leadership (Director, and VP where appropriate) and technical teams

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
