The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Industrial Hygiene Manager of EOHSS for the Phoenix facility within the Department of Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety and Sustainability (EOHSS). The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting the company’s environmental, occupational health, safety, and sustainability efforts within the Phoenix site to drive long-term company and stakeholder value. The position will support the development, planning, organization, and execution of strategies to maintain a safe, health, and environmental compliant facility. This position plays a key role in executing corporate and local policies and procedures that will enable and foster a proactive and integrated EOHSS culture that promotes a positive, proactive approach throughout all operational and enabling function areas at the facility. The Industrial Hygiene manager of EOHSS for the Phoenix site will report to the Senior Manager of EOHSS and coordinate, implement, assess, and improve environmental, safety, occupational health, sustainability outcomes using global and local regulations and consensus guides, BMS management systems, policies, and procedures to promote compliant, forward-leaning culture and preserve BMS reputation while driving shared Company objectives. The Manager will be expected to approach the coordination of these tasks in alignment with the BMS values of integrity, inclusion, passion, innovation, urgency, and accountability.

Major Duties:

  • Develop, Implements/ Improves new and existing EOHSS programs to meet compliance with federal, cantonal, and local environmental, safety, medical surveillance and sustainability laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus guides.

  • Ability to apply EOHSS regulatory program requirements in a manufacturing setting.

  • Accountable for EOHSS regulatory preparedness and building rapport and trust through all interactions (external agencies and internal stakeholders)

  • Participates in the continuous improvement of site EOHSS culture; models what good looks like.

  • Provides technical acumen and oversight to all EOHSS programs and activities on-site

  • Participates and supports EOHSS operational and tier discussions, EOHSS committees and teams; and EOHSS self-assessments, inspections, GEMBAs and audits.

  • Stops operations and activities that could harm the environment, workforce, or facilities.

  • Identifies and solutions to eliminate unplanned events including spills, workplace injuries, accidents, and adverse health effects.

  • Responsible for using EOHSS platforms including modules for investigation, inspection, compliance, and industrial hygiene

  • Executes recordkeeping/reports at national, state, province level as well as within BMS stipulated structures and timing.

  • Proactively collaborates at site and above-site levels

  • Brings new approaches to continually improve the effectiveness of workflows and processes and learn and apply new concepts

  • Helps to coach and mentor EHS Team members during day-to-day operations.

  • Acts with integrity to provide accurate resolution of issues as they arise and is transparent in escalating site or enterprise impactful issues to the site Senior Manager

  • Acts collaboratively with integrity and urgency to practically apply emerging regulation and policy to the site processes and programs.

  • Applies innovation to continually improve the effectiveness and create bold solutions for workflows and processes and learns to apply new concepts

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge and application in industrial hygiene, compound banding, and environmental media.

  • Working knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

  • Knowledge and experience with the design and execution of emergency response programs

  • Knowledge and experience with the design and execution of risk assessments, JHAs, and pre task planning

  • Proven track record of implementing safety related programs and EOHSS project management in a manufacturing setting

  • Strong Incident Investigation and Corrective and Preventative Action skill set

  • Must maintain proficiency in all BMS EOHSS standards.

  • Ability to flex with change and handle multiple priorities with a sense of calm

  • Operate with a high degree of integrity and transparency

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proclivity for partnership and cross-team collaboration

  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivated, proven ability to work independently

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint; aptitude and demonstrated proficiency for EOHSS specific systems such as ENABLON, Enfos, Enhesa.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, or engineering

  • Prefer certification as Industrial Hygienist (CIH) through an accredited organization.

  • Prefer candidates with a six-sigma certification (green belt or above).

  • At least 6 years of direct EOHSS experience in manufacturing or pharmaceutical space.
