The Everett Clinic, part of Optum, is now offering qualified candidates an opportunity to join our team as an RN ASC in our GI department at Gunderson, full time working 40 hours. The ASC RN functions as an integral member of the healthcare team and is responsible for: Under general supervision, the Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) applies elements of the nursing process in the provision of professional nursing care to all patients in accordance with accepted standards of practice for the Endoscopy GI Lab. The staff RN is responsible for assessing the patient’s individual care needs and developing a plan of care based on this assessment. The RN is responsible for the facilitation of patient care delivery by effectively collaborating with other health care providers on an intra- and interdepartmental basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

Planning and Coordination of Patient Care

  • Assesses the health status of the patient to develop an individualized plan of care by collecting, categorizing and interpreting data (physical and psychosocial) from documented information, observation, patient/family interview and other health care team members
  • Develops a nursing care plan based on the assessment of the patient that included nursing diagnosis, patient goals and nursing interventions necessary to achieve these goals
  • Implements the nursing care plan to provide optimal individualized care for the patient
  • Instructs the patient and family to assist the patient in the achievement of optimal health status
  • Documents nursing activities to provide a permanent record, for continuity of care, quality improvement and professional accountability
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment to protect the patient and the health care team by monitoring the patient (physiologically and psychologically) and the environment and by implementing safety procedures
  • Coordinates support services needed during endoscopy by anticipating and communicating patient and surgical team needs
  • Communicates information to patient/family
  • Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care to determine degree of goal attainment by comparing patient outcomes with patient goals
  • Contributes to the discharge plan
  • Initiates appropriate behaviors unique to endoscopy nursing

Patient Interaction and Safety

  • Identifies the patient to ensure that the patient, procedure and site correspond
  • Plans, supervises and assists with the transfer of the patient to protect the patient and personnel from injury
  • Positions the patient during diagnostic/therapeutic procedure while maximizing patient safety and comfort
  • Establishes and maintains a clean environment to reduce the potential for infection by applying the principles of antisepsis, decontamination, disinfection, sanitation, sterilization and environmental monitoring
  • Teaches, supervises and applies principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions
  • Organizes and coordinates supplies, equipment, and team members to maintain an efficient, effective and safe postoperative environment through ongoing patient and situation assessment, priority setting, procurement of supplies and arrangement of equipment, by teaching, directing, communicating and collaborating with health care team members and support service personnel
  • Selects and executes appropriate methods for cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and disinfecting to ensure patient safety by applying principles of sterilization and disinfection and by following packaging guidelines set by regulating agencies and manufacturers
  • Evaluates products to determine their safety, effectiveness, use and cost effectiveness
  • Executes nursing activities to provide life support in an emergency situation by taking appropriate action and/or providing direction/assistance to health care team members
  • Communicates information to recovery room personnel to promote continuity of care

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (ACLS must be acquired within 3months of hire)
  • IV conscious sedation, patient teaching skills
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice and the nursing process in evaluating and giving patient care knowledge of aseptic technique
  • Knowledge of meds used pre-op, intra-op and post-op, including kowledge of the function and use of patient monitoring equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Membership in the Society of Gastrointestinal National Association and certification by SGNA (Society of Gastroenterology Nurses & Associates)
  • 2+ years of recent endoscopy lab experience
  • Recent endoscopy lab experience or willing to be trained
  • Demonstrated organizational and telephone skills
  • Reads, speaks, understands and writes clearly in English
  • Works with initiative, energy and effectiveness in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to apply the principles and methods of professional nursing to provide quality patient care
  • Ability to interpret basic EKGs
  • Ability to relate effectively with coworkers, physicians and staff and function as part of a team
